where the larger solids are removed for disposal and liquid is pumped into a centrifuge which removes fine solid particles. The fine particles are mixed with a bulk solidification medium for disposal. Oil collection in the vessels is enhanced by the partial vacuum which lowers the boiling point so tiny bubbles are formed to aid separation of the oily and non-oily phases. Passing the liquid through a centrifuge also aids separation of the oily and non-oily phases in the first vessel.

Method and apparatus for removing noxious gases, such as, oxides of nitrogen, sulfur or carbon from industrial influent gas streams which utilizes growing plants positioned in long residence contact time apparatus for removing the noxious gases.

George J Morgan assigned to Stauffer Chemical Company A process of recovering elemental phosphorus from sludge is disclosed wherein the sludge is hash evaporated utilizing a heat transfer means and then separated from the solid impurities contained therein.

4690634 METHOD OF MEASURING DRY SUBSTANCE IN FLUE GASES

Apparatus for producing and removing dissolved and particulate matter from natural bodies of water and wastewater in situ for the production of organic biomass such as feedstocks, for the removal of pollutants, nutrients, toxins and other substances, and for other purposes. A gas is introduced through a diffuser into a body of water to form bubbles. The bubbles rise within a lifting tube, gathering dissolved and particulate matter on their surfaces. The bubbles produce a foam at the surface of the body of water, the foam being collected in a reservoir, concentrated and drawn off.

Torbjorn Herngren, Jon Lofthus, Sweded assigned to Svenska Traforskningsinstitutet The invention relates to a method of measuring dry substance in the flue gas in liquor recovery units in mills for the manufacture of papermaking pulp in order thereby to render it possible to control the operation of the unit. According to the invention, this is carried out in that the radiation emission caused at the combustion of fuel particles in the hearth of the unit above the fuel supply level is detected optically, and that the signals are used for indication and/or control of the operation of the unit.

4691743 METHOD AND DEVICE FOR REMOVAL OF WASTE SLIVERS IN A WEAVING LOOM Jean Venot, Mulhouse, France assigned to Societe Alsacienne de Construction de Material Textile In order to remove waste slivers produced by cutting false selvedges in a weaving loom, at least two slivers are introduced into a rotating feed duct and subjected to a false twist, thus automatically balancing the tensions of the different slivers. The cord thus formed falls down from the feed duct outlet onto a delivery toiler on which the spiral turns are successively allowed to slip off the rotating toiler under the control of a brake system and then discharged into a can.
