Mutation/Genetic Engineering Techniques 4762785

cloning vector comprising a Saccharomyces cerevisiae transcriptional and translational activating sequence positioned for expression of hygromycin phosphotransferase into a host cell and then growing the host cell under selective conditions. The vectors optionally further comprise Cephalosporium ribosomal DNA and also sequences that allow for replication and selection in E. coli and Streptomyces.

NOVEL METHOD AND COMPOSITIONS FOR I N T R O D U C T I N G ALLEN D N A I N

VIVO Luca Comai assigned to Calgene Inc Method and compositions are provided for introducing alien DNA into a nucleic acid in vivo by providing a plasmid capable of replication in a first host, which is capable of conjugation with a second host into which the alien DNA is to be introducted. The plasmid is characterized by being capable of maintenance in said first host, being incapable of maintenance in said second host, having a region of homology with DNA present in said second host, not selftransmissable but capable of mobilization by a helper plasmid and having a marker, which may be the alien DNA, for selection in said second host. The invention finds particular application for introducing alien DNA into the Ti plasmid of Agrobacterium tumefaciens for introduction into plant cells.

4762791 HUMAN IMMUNE

INTERFERON

David V Goeddel, Patrick W Gray assigned to Genentech lnc Disclosed is a complete discription of the preparation of novel, recombinant human immune interferon via recombinant DNA techniques utilizing any of an assortment of expression vectors and host cultures. The recombinant human immune (gamma) interferon (IFN- gamma), is isolated and characterized in terms of its DNA and amino acid sequences, physical attributes and biological activity. A des-CYS-TYR-CYS species is also prepared.
