Novel compositions and methods are provided for detecting lupus nephritis in patients suffering from SLE. Competitive or non-competitive assays may be employed, where monoconal antibodies may be used to compete with antiserum for a nucleic acid ligand or may be used for the detection of antiidiotype antibodies as diagnostic of the presence or absence of lupus nephritis.

zymatically converted into the corresponding hydantoins. The present invention provides a process for an optical resolution with a high efficiency which can be used for the synthesis of(S)4’-imidazolidine)6-fluoro-Spiro-(chroman-4, 2’,5’-dione (USAN; Sorbinil), which is an optically active hydrantoins attracting public attention as a preventive or a remedy for the particular chronic symptoms of diabetes such as cataract and neuropathy, and (S)- alpha-methyl3,4_dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-methyldopa), which is an optically active amino acid widely used as antihypertensives. Further, the present invention provides a novel finding that Ncarbamoyl- alpha-amino acid having no hydrogen atom on its alpha-carbon atom can be biochemically converted into hydantoins by an enzymatic cyclization reaction.

The method in accordance with the invention provides antibiograms or bacteriological identification of colonies of micro-organisms. The method uses a cabinet (1) which supports a set of mechanical, thermal, optical, and electronic units, together with conditioning strips in which the various biochemical reactions take place. After being seeded with a micro-organism under investigation, a strip is placed on the cabinet and is then subjected to a sequence of mechanical, thermal, and optical operations.

4812554 SOMATOSTATIN PEPTIDE CONJUGATE Arthur D Riggs assigned to Genentech Inc The specification discloses: 1. Recombinant microbial cloning vehicles comprising heterologous DNA coding for the expression of mammalian hormone (e.g., somatostatin) and other polypeptides, including plasmids suited for the transformation of bacterial hosts. The latter incorporate a regulon homologous to the host in its untransformed state, in reading phase with the structural gene for the heterologous DNA; 2.
