PATENT ABSTRACTS Monoclonal antibodies are provided capable of distinguishing DNA-RNA hybrid complexes from single stranded DNA and RNA and double stranded D N A and RNA. The antibodies find particular use in determining the presence of a specific nucleic acid sequence on a solid surface, Single stranded polynudeotide is fixed to a solid (gel) surface and then hybridized with the complementary probe. The hybrid complex specific monoelonal antibody is then added to bind to any hybrid complexes which have formed. By appropriate label, the hybrid complex may be visualized in a variety of ways.

486591~1 DYNAMIC CONTINUOUS FLOW ENZYME REACTOR Yale Nemerson, Vincen Turitto assigned to Mount Sinai School of Medicine of the City University of New York A dynamic continuous flow enzyme reactor and method for carrying out and analyzing phospbolipid-dependent enzyme reactions are provided. The enzyme reactor is a tubular member preferably a capillary tube, coated on its inner surface with a planar phospholipid bilayer membrane, optionally and preferably containing an enzyme or enzyme cofactor. The reactor is connectable at one end to a means for delivering fluid flow reagents to the reactor and is connectable at a second end to a means for analyzing an effluent exiting from the reactor. Preferably the enzyme cofactor in the phospholipid merebrane is purified tissue factor and the fluid reagents are inactive blood dotting factors which become activated upon interaction with the pbospbolipid membrane through a tissue factor-mediated reaction.

longer side edges are fitted with temperature conditioning means (2), extending substantially along the entire length of the longer side edges of gradient plate (1). The temperature conditioning means (2) are heated or cooled by means of fluid circulation, electricity or the like operating on a counterflow principle.

4865988 MICROBIOLOGICAL DEVICE

CULTURE

Piergiacomo Guala, 15100 Alessandria, Italy A microbiological culture device which affords improved lapping over a surface to be tested comprises an elongated plate carrying a culture medium, a tubular case for the plate, and a stopper for the case made fast with one end of the plate and providing a handgrip for holding the plate, as well as an elastically deformable bridge formed on the plate the one end.

BOVINE

Karl-Heinrich Jaeger, Luzern, Switzerland Oligopeptide mixtures from deproteinized bovine blood dialyzate which are characterized by their RF values in thin-layer chromatography, as well as a method for their preparation.

4866166 4865987 THERMAL GRADIENTINCUBATOR

BIOASSAY FOR TRANSFORMING GENES AND GENES DETECTED THEREBY

Seppo Niemela, Helsinki, Finland assigned to Limitek OY

Michael Wigler assigned to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory

The invention relates to a thermal gradientincubator for studying and monitoring the temperature-dependent growth and other activity of microbes, comprising a rectangular, highly heat-conductive gradient plate (1) whose

A sensitive bioassay for transforming genes based on the tumorigenicity of cotransfected NIH3T3 cells in nude mice is disclosed. Genes reef2 and mcf3 have been detected in tissue breast cancer using this assay.
