In order to accumulate data from which the signature of an array of n interacting seismic sources 21 to 27, for instance marine seismic sources in the form of air guns, can be determined, the array is actuated and the emitted pressure wave is measured at n independent points whose positions will respect to the array are known by hydrophones 31 to 37. Data from the measured pressure wave is stored for subsequent processing to produce n equivalent signatures of the n sources taking into account the interactions therebetween. The signature of the array is then determined merely by superposing the n equivalent signatures.

transmitter is the moved relative to the chain of receivers along a grid as the transmitter is repeatedly, periodically activated. Data collected by the receivers are recorded for each subregion and the completely surveyed sub-regions are combined by grid transformation to construct a uniform three-dimensional data volume.

Kimon T Bird, Rolland D Carlson assigned to Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution Inc Production of macroalgae, e.g., Gracilaria, in a marine culture system is enhanced by improving the manner in which the aqueous culture medium is created, namely, first adjusting the alkalinity of a quantity of freshwater by the addition of an alkaline reagent thereto, diluting seawater with such alkalinity adjusted freshwater to create a saline solution having a salinity of between about 15 to 25 parts per thousand and an alkalinity of between about 3 to 10 meq/l., dissolving carbon dioxide in the resulting solution to bring its pH to between about 7.5 and 8.5, and using such carbon dioxide enriched solution as the culture medium.

4870624 PROCEDURE FOR SEISMIC SURVEYING Roland Marschall, Hanover, Federal Republic Of Germany assigned to Prakla-Seismos AG A procedure for seismically surveying a region, in particular a marine region, wherein objects such as drilling platforms (1,2,3) prevent surveying by conventional seismic means such as towed streamers. In the invention, the total region first divided into sub-regions (5,6,7) wherein receiver chains (4) are stationarily mounted between two of the objects. A sound

A hydrostreamer includes connectors for joining to depending housings enclosing geophone sensors. These sensors are coupled to the bottom of the sea via such housings by the housings being appropriately weighted and externally surface serrated. Thus, the geophones detect swaves directly from the ground in single-mode conversion fashion while simultaneously, hydrophones in the hydrostreamers detect p-wave reflections in traditional fashion.

4870626 METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE POSITION OF A MARINE SEISMIC RECEIVER CABLE Egil Tveit, Sandnes, Norway assigned to Den norske stats oljeselskap a s A method for determining the position of a marine seismic receiver cable of the type which is towed behind a seismic survey vessel through the sea, wherein the azimuth and the distance from the vessel to points along the seismic receiver cable are measured, and the coodinates of these points are calculated on the basis of these values. A hydroacoustic measurement method is utilized, based on a super-short baseline system integrated with a gyrocompass, for measuring the azimuth and distances in accordance with signals from transponders, beacons, responders and/or similar instruments installed on or within the seismic receiver cable.
