short time by collecting only the data that is used to reconstruct an image. The method is initiated

by defining a circular region whose center lies at the point in a two-dimensional Fourier plane at which the spatial frequency is zero. The Fourier plane corresponds to a region containing an image to be reconstructed. The spin echo signals emanating from a region inside the circular region are observed by an ordinary Fourier method, said region having a length greater than a predetermined length as measured in the direction in which data obtained by the observation is read out. The spin echo signals emanating from the remaining region inside the circular region are observed while shortening the time for which a reading gradient magnetic field is applied whenever an excitation is effected and, at the same time, effecting an additional phase shift encoding.

4916398 EFFICIENT REMOTE TRANSMISSION LINE PROBE TUNING FOR NMR APPARATUS Alan R Rath assigned to Spectroscopy Imaging Systems Corp

The invention demonstrates remote tuning of an NMR probe over a length of transmission line while retaining very high efficiency relative to the equivalent turned locally coil. Fixed capacitances for partial tuning are employed at the load such that a desired range of efficiency is achievable for a selected range of capacitance values at both load and source for the intervening transmission line.

4916399 HEAD OR BODY COIL ASSEMBLY FOR MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING APPARATUS Bernard Oliver assigned to Resonex Inc A head or body coil assembly for picking up signals in an MRI system is provided. It includes a thin band of conductive material which surrounds the specimen having a thickness comparable to the skin depth at the frequency of the spin echo signals of the MRI system but being transparent to gradient waveform frequencies. The thin band is in the form of a cylinder which acts as a flux tube for the RF signals to automatically provide for a homogeneous magnetic field.
