PATENT ABSTRACTS Oligonucleotide probes for diagnosing predisposition to rheumatoid arthritis, capable of specifically hybridizing with See Patent for Tabular Presentation PS or See Patent for Tabular Presentation PS wherein A is adenine, C is cytosine, G is guanine, T is thymine, RI is GT or TG, R2 is T or uracil, and R3 is CA or AC. Or, capable of specifically hybridizing with See Patent for Tabular Presentation PS or See Patent for Tabular Presentation PS wherein R1 is A or G, R2 is T or uracil, and R3 is R2 or C.

4971965 ANTIBIOTICS

TAN-1057

Hideo Ono, Yasunori Funabashi, Setsuo Harada, Kobe, Japan assigned to Takeda Chemical Industries Ltd Novel antibiotics TAN-1057 represented by the formula: See Patent for Chemical Structure wherein, the absolute configuration at (A) is R or S; R1 is hydrogen and both R2 and R3 taken together form a chemical bond, or R3 is hydrogen and both RI and R2 taken together form a chemical bond; were produced by microorganisms belonging to the genus Flexibacter. TAN-1057 strongly inhibit the growth of pathogenic microorganisms and malignant tumors, thus being useful as therapeutic agents of infectious diseases or antitumor agents.

4973479 INTERFERON-

ALPHA61

Michael A Innis assigned to Cetus Corporation A new polypeptide, called IFN- alpha61, produced by E. coli transformed with a newly isolated and characterized human IFN- alpha gene is described. The polypeptide exhibits interferon activities such as antiviral activity, cell growth regulation, and regulation of production of cell-produced substances. 4973552 STAUROSPORINE FERMENTATION PROCESS Daniel Schroeder, Kin S L a m , Jacqueline M Mattei, Grace A Hesler assigned to BristolMeyers Squibb Company

A fermentation process for preparing staurosporine, a known antibiotic, employing a heretofore unknown micrrorganism is described, said microorganism being classified as a novel strain of Streptomyces hygroscopicus being and herein designated Streptomyces hygroscopicus strain C39280-450-9 (ATCC 53730).

4~35~ MONOCLONAL ANTIBODIES TO INTERFERON ALPHA2 AND HYBRIDOMAS PRODUCING SUCH ANTIBODIES Sylvie Bove, Catherine Favre, Nick Lydon, Huningue, France assigned to Schering Corporation This invention relates to monoclonal antibodies to interferon alpha and to hybridomas producing such antibodies. These antibodies are preferably of the immunoglobulin subclass IgG1 and preferably do not bind to alpha or alpha interferon. They can be used in assaying, purifying or isolating proteins, such as interferon alpha, for which they are specific.

4973577 FSH-RELEASING

PEPTIDES

Wylie W Vale, Jean E Rivier, Richard McClintock, Anne Corrigan, Joan Vaughan, Joachim Spiess, Nicholas C Ling, Shao-Yao Ying, Frederick Esch, Roger C Guillemin assigned to The Salk Institute for Biological Studies A 28,000-dalton protein with FSH-releasing activity is isolated from porcine follicular fluid in a multi-step procedure including gel filtration, ion exchange chromatography and several reversephase high-performance liquid chromatography steps. The 28 kD protein promotes secretion of FSH, but not of LH, in a rat anterior pituitary monolayer culture system, exhibiting an EC50 of 0.5 ng/ml. These peptides are dimers of inhibin beta-chains of mammals, and homodimers or heterodimers of the betaA and betaB chains are biologically active to regulate fertility of various mammalian species, including humans.
