PATENT ABSTRACTS A substantially pure species of avian Interleukin-2 has a molecular weight of about 30 kda. as determined by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The compound is obtained from avian lymphocytes. It is produced by collecting lymphocytes from an avian donor, growing the lymphocytes in a medium containing a T cell mitogenic agent, and recovering the compound from the medium.

substances is conjugated via a sulfur atom to at least one site of the component. The site is not involved in binding immunoglobulins. A markerlabelled complement component C Iq is used for measuring a complement-binding antibody, an antigen, a neutralizing antibody or a substance produced internally of and at the surface of a cell or a microorganism by measuring the marker.

A surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor is adapted for biochemical and similar testing on large area samples such as the gel of an electrophoresis apparatus. The gel is sandwiched between a pair of plates. One of the plates is of transparent material and, sandwiched between itself and the gel is a metal layer of a mosaic of silver dots. Light from a source is directed via a reflector and undergoes total internal reflection at the interfacce between the transparent plate and metal layer. The reflected light is passed via another reflector to a light detector. The equipment is arranged so that SPR occurs at the metal layer, which resonance is critically dependent upon the refractive index of the gel. The structure including the light source and detector, together with reflectors is caused to scan across the gel surface to enable a two-dimensional representation of the changes in refractive index across the gel to be built up. This enables the progress of sequencing to be monitored.

In the process according to this invention, an amplification procedure is performed on a first sample in which one or more of the four normal ribonucleoside triphosphates (rNTPs) or deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates (dNTPs) is replaced with an exo-sample nucleotide. After amplification, any contaminating amplified product that may be remaining is subjected to a physical, chemical, enzymatic, or biological treatment which renders nucleic acid containing the exo-sample nucleotide substantially unamplifiable. The treatment may be done as a separate step or it may be done in the presence of a second sample containing nucleic acid sequences to be amplified. The amplified nucleic acid sequences derived from the first sample which contaminate the second sample are not further substantially amplified during amplification of nucleic acid sequences of the second sample.
