PATENT ABSTRACTS

through the hollow shaft on the discharge side and upwards, can be provided behind a screen plate. Pipes that are parallel to the axis and that have openings, which are protected by finlike rims with slots, feed liquid or gas to the biomasscontaining system in the reaction vessel. In another embodiment, a vertical reactor is equipped with packing provided on vibrating plates which are set into vibration, preferably intermittently. For denitrification, a nitrate-nitrite degradation stage can be provided upstream of the reactor vessel.

34127 METHOD FOR PREVENTING THE BULKING OF ACTIVATED SLUDGE Kiyoharu Fujino, Yokkaichi, Japan assigned to Mitsubishi Kasei Polytec Company A method for preventing the bulking of activated sludge, which comprises adding to the activated sludge a water-soluble cationic polymer obtained by a reaction of a dialkylamine, ammonia and epichlorohydrin, in an amount of from 0.05 to 25 parts by weight relative to 100 parts by weight of the dried solid content of the activated sludge.

5160043 METHOD OF EXHAUSTING DISSOLVED OXYGEN IN A NITROGEN REMOVAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESS Peter Kos assigned to 1 Kruger Inc The present invention relates to a nitrogen removal wastewater treatment process and system that entails an anoxic treatment zone followed by an oxic treatment zone with internal recycle of mixed liquor from the oxic treatment zone to the preceding anoxic treatment zone. Prior to recycling the nitrified mixed liquor back into the anoxic zone, the mixed liquor is held within a dissolved oxygen exhauster tank for a selected period of time where the dissolved oxygen concentration of the nitrified mixed liquor is substantially reduced to preferably below 0.5 ppm.

AQUATIC

FILTER

Perry Colburn An aerobic bacteria filtration apparatus for aquatic ponds. A generally cylindrical tube houses a plasticized media derived from horse hair or hog hair which is suitable for supporting the growth ofcolonies ofaerobic bacteria. An intake port coupled to one end of the tube permits water from the aquatic pond to be drawn across the plasticized media by means of a submersible pump which is coupled to the other end of the tube. The aerobic bacteria digests and degrades waste products suspended in the water as it is drawn across the plasticized media, and the cleansed water is discharged into the aquatic pond. A plurality of tubes containing the plasticized media can be connected in a manifold configuration to increase the filtration capability for large bodies of water.
