which allows for detection of cells confining the template. The resulting cDNA may be eluted and used in a polymerase chain reaction for isolation of the DNA, and/or the cDNA electrophoresed, which may provide for information concerning the sequence, or the like.
5168039 REPETITIVE DNA SEQUENCE SPECIFIC FOR MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS TO BE USED FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF TUBERCULOSIS Jack Crawford, Kathleen D Eisenach, M Donald Cave, Joseph H Bates assigned to The Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas A novel composition and/or methods for the diagnosis of tuberculosis wherein the composition comprises a repetitive DNA segment that is specific for members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex. The DNA segment repeats in the chromosome of Mycobacte~um tuberculosis complex, and is conserved in all copies of the chromosomes. A method comprises using an entire repetitive DNA sequence, or any part thereof, as a hybridization probe for the direct detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex in clinical material. In another method, a smaller portion of an entire repetitive DNA sequence is ampli~ed using polymerase chain reaction, yielding a 123 base-pair product.
5168040 COLORIMETRIC ASSAY FOR DETECTING FUNGAL CELL ENVELOPE PER~BATIONS Michael J Ryan, Jason A Lotvin, Elizabeth Smith, Karen J Shaw assigned to Schering Corporation Methods of constructing and using gene expression systems to indicate the pertubation of fungal cell envelopes are provided. The recombinant genes produce indicator cleavage enzymes such as beta-galactosidase when galactose is able to enter the cell, despite the presence of glucose, through discontinuous cell envelopes. The indicator cleavage enzymes such as betagalactosidase cleaves a calorimetric indicator placed in the media to produce an easily detected measurement of altered cell envelope permeability.
5168048 PENICILLIN G ACYLASE, A GENE ENCODING THE SAME AND A METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF THIS ENZYME Wilhelmus J Quax, Voorschoten, assigned to Gist-brocades NV
Netherlands
The invention provides a gene encoding penicillin G acylase, the enzyme encoded by said gene and a method for the production of said enzyme by incorporating said gene in a host and bringing the same to expression. The gene is preferably obtained from a strain of the microorganism Alcaligenes faecalis.
5168049 PRODUCTION OF STREPTAVIDIN~LIKE POLYPEPTIDES Harry M Meade, Je&ey L Garwin assigned to Biogen Inc DNA sequences, hybrid DNA sequences, recombinant DNA molecules and processes for producing streptavidin-like polypeptides and for producing fused proteins consisting of a streptavidin-like polypeptide joined end to end with another protein, polypeptide, peptide or amino acid. The DNA sequences, hybrid DNA sequences and recombinant DNA molecules of this invention are characterized in that they include DNA fragments that code for streptavidinlike polypeptides. These DNA sequences, hybrid DNA sequences and recombinant DNA molecules and the hosts transformed with them may be employed in the processes of this invention to produce strepta~din-like poly~ptides and fused proteins.
5168050 MAMMALIAN EXPRESSION OF THE BONE MORPHOGENETIC PROTEIN-2B USING BMP2A/BMP2B FUSION R Glenn Hammonds, Anthony signed to Genentech Inc
