two stages of prehydrolysis to separate the ethanol producing portion from the pulp producing portion. The ethanol producing portion is condensed and subject to enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation to produce an ethanol product. The pulp producing portion is processed in two stages of digestion to produce a pulp in high yield that is suitable to produce a variety of papers.
time basis in the top layer of the landfill. The sides of the structure and the tops of the cells in the top layer are continuously protected from rain infiltration by impervious covers, and uncontaminated rain waters, leachates, leakage, and gases are separately withdrawn from the system on a cell-by-cell basis by an internal plumbing and monitoring system. Biodegradation is used in cells in the top layer to produce methane gas.
52~3~ 5202235 METHOD FOR THE FERMENTATIVE PRODUCTION OF L-AMINO ACIDS FROM ALPHA-KETO ACIDS Christia Wandrey, Rolf Wichmann, Ulrich Groeger, Manfred Kircher, Wolfgang Leuchtenberger, Eberhard Breuker, J assigned to Degussa AG The invention is directed to a method of producing L-amino acids from alphaketocarboxylic acids by means of continuous fermentation with the aid of glutamate producing bacteria with biomass retention in which the cells are separated by microfiltration and/or centrifugal separators.
5201609 CELLULAR LANDFILL PROCESS AND APPARATUS Paul H Johnson assigned to Johnson Research and Development Corp The present invention is directed to a process and apparatus wherein municipal refuse, and many other types of solid waste, are disposed of in a landfill repository that maintains them in a dry state indefinitely. This eliminates most environmental and many cost problems. The principal design feature of this landfill is its cel, lular internal structure, which has rows of contiguous, rectangular water- and gas-tight cells that are built on top of one another to form a high, multi-layered structure. These cells are simultaneously constructed and filled with solid waste in a series of short, incremental wall berm construction and filling steps on a one-cell-at-a-
ENZYMATIC METHOD FOR THE SYNTHESIS AND SEPARATION OF PEPTIDES Guillermo A Iacobucci assigned to The CocaCola Company The present invention provides a method for the enzymatic synthesis of peptides accomplished by shifting the chemical equilibrium that exists in a reaction mixture between charged or ionized reacting amino acids and uncharged or nonionized peptide product in the presence of a proteolytic enzyme such as thermolysin. The equilibrium is shifted by diffusion of the uncharged peptide product across an ion-rejection membrane which removes the uncharged peptide from the reaction mixture and preferably the diffused uncharged peptide is quickly converted to a charged species that cannot back-diffuse into the reaction mixture so that the uncharged peptide is effectively pulled across the membrane.
52~3~ ANTIBIOTIC CYCLOPEPTIDE FERMENTATION PRODUCT Robert E Schwartz, Jerrold M Liesch, Raymond F White, Otto D Hensens, Henry Joshua, Dennis M Schmatz, assigned to Merck & Co Inc An antibiotic agent produced by the cultivation of Zalerion arboricola which is a cyclic lipopeptide with very high activity against human pathogens and of very low mammalian toxicity is described. Its production and isolation are also described.
