PATENT ABSTRACIS The present invention provides for the first time an expeditious method to separate polyene macrolide antibiotics into their major components, through a general preparatory procedure employing high pressure liquid chromatography. The procedure allows for the first time a useable preparatory method for separating the polyene macrolide complexes derived from fermentation and cultivation of various organisms, into their major components. Substantially pure dermostatic A and dermostatic B can now be achieved as well as substantially pure mycoticin A and mycoticin B.
5210296 RECOVERY OF LACTATE ESTERS AND LACTIC ACID FROM FERMENTATION BROTH Michael C M Cockrem, Pride Johnson assigned to E I Du Pont de Nemours and Company The production of high purity lactate ester or lactic acid from a concentrated fermentation broth by continuous acidification in the presence of an alcohol diluent with sequential or simultaneous esterification, distillation off of high purity ester, and, if desired, hydrolysis of the ester to high purity lactic acid. 5211103
CONVERTIBLE BREWER James H A n s o n assigned to Bunn-O-Matic Corporation A reconfignrable beverage brewing apparatus having an independently configurable funnel support device and control device for orienting the apparatus in more than two operational configurations. The apparatus includes an overhanging hood and a funnel supported under the hood for retaining brewing substance. A discharge tube is retained in the hood proximate to the funnel and extends through the hood portion for delivering heated water to the brewing substance retained therein. The funnel support device includes a base with two channel members attached thereto and anchoring devices. Open ends of each of the channel members are positioned opposite each other and spaced apart a distance for receiving and retaining the funnel. The discharge tube projects through a passage formed through the base. The anchoring devices attach the base to an underside of the hood and
prohibit rotation of the base portion. The control devices include a panel portion with multiple openings formed therethrough which is removably attachable to the apparatus; control devices which are engageable in the slots formed through said apparatus; and device positioning members for removably retaining the control devices in a desired position behind the panel.
5212057 BIOLOGICAL SYSTEM FOR CONSTRUCTING AND TESTING VIRAL VACCINES Richard W Moyer, David Bloom assigned to University of Florida Disclosed is a novel biological system for 1) the evaluation of potential complications of live virus vaccines prior to actual testing in animals or in the field, and 2) the construction of vaccine vectors in which the ability to grow within specific organs or tissues has selectively been eliminated from the virus.
5212063 LIGAND TRAP USEFUL IN IMMUNOASSAYS OF BIOTIN OR FREE BIOTIN CONTAINING SAMPLES AND IMPROVED IMMUNOASSAYS USING THESE LIGAND TRAPS Beatus Ofenloch-Hahnle, Michael Berger, Arno Deger, Munich, Federal Republic Of Germany assigned to Boehringer Mannheim GmbH The present invention provides a process for the detection of analytes in body fluids containing free biotin by immunoassay with the use of biotin conjugates for the labelling, immobilization or complexing of immunological reagents, wherein the biotin present in free form is removed from the immunological reaction by incubating the sample solution with polymer particles consisting of a core and a covering which, as core, contain a polymer which has a plurality of binding sites for biotin and, as covering, at least one layer of protein, peptide, carbohydrate or co-polymer of carbohydrate and amino acids, the layer thickness of the covering being so adjusted that the coating is permeable for the free biotin but not for the biotin conjugate.
