A wash solution having a pH of from about 7 to about 12 comprises at least about 0.1 weight percent of one or more cationic surfactants. This wash solution is useful in assays for chlamydial or gonococcal organisms, such as Chlamydia trachomatis or Neisseria gonorrhoeae. In particular, it can be used to remove uncomplexed materials from the insolubilized complexes formed between antigen and antibodies.

When injected into an animal or human with an antigen, certain of the biologically-active copolymers cause immunosuppression to the antigen. When injected into poultry, certain of the biologicallyactive copolymers modulate immune responsiveness. The biologically active copolymers are also useful as growth promoters for animals. Compounds within the biologicallyactive copolymers of the present invention are effective tumoricidal agents. At low concentration, certain of the biologically-active copolymers can cause dedifferentiated cells to differentiate. The biologically-active copolymer of the present invention is a safe and non-toxic formulation that can effectively be administered to animals or humans. The biologically-active copolymer can be mixed in an oil and water emulsion and administered to an animal or human by injection or by oral administration.

This strong affinity of ECG for heparin enables removal of undesired impurities from a mixture comprising ECG by: a) contacting immobilized heparin with the mixture to form a heparin-ECG complex; b) separating uncomplexed mixture from the complex; and c) contacting the complex with a salt solution of a salt concentration and pH effective to separate the ECG from the heparin. The resulting purified ECG (or fragment thereof) is useful in therapeutics and as an additive for cell culturing. The purified ECG is also useful to raise antibodies that are used in therapeutics and in ECG immunoassays.
