New Patents antibodies to the virus, and the use of polynucleotide probes to detect the viral genome. Vaccines include both wholly and partially inactivated viruses inactivated cell lines expressing FIV antigens, and subunit vaccines. Whole, live virus is also useful as a model system for predicting the behavior of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

The addition of 5-androstene 3 beta, 17 betadiol and/or 5-androstene 3 beta,7 beta, 17 beta trio1 to growth media increases proliferation of lymphocytes in culture. By methods of the invention it is possible to increase production of autogenous lymphocytes for administration to the patient.

5278183 5275934 METHOD OF DETECTING VIRAL INFECTION IN VACCINATED ANIMALS Leonard E Post, Darrell R Thomsen assigned to The Upjohn Company Provided are methods for determining whether a vaccinated animal is uninfected or infected with a virulent wild-type virus. Methods, vaccines and viruses are disclosed that are useful to seratologically distinguish infected from uninfected animals in populations of animals vaccinated with a properly incapacitated virus lacking an antigen of the wild-type virus.

Calvin L Keeler

Allan C Pier A vaccine for the prophylaxis of dermatophyte infection in animals, such as guinea pigs, cats, rabbits, horses and lambs comprising a suspension of killed T. equinum, T. mentagrophytes (var. granulare), M. canis and M. gypseum in an effective amount combined with an adjuvant. The vaccine of the invention contains advantages over prior art dermatophyte vaccines in that it reduces the risk of infection in inoculated animals and persons utilizing the vaccine and provides cross-immunity.

The present invention is concerned with the preparation of an Infectious Laryngotracheitis Virus (ILTV) mutant which does not produce a functional thymidine kinase enzyme as a result of a mutation in the TK gene, and its preparation. The invention also relates to an ILTV mutant containing a heterologous gene encoding an antigen of an avian pathogen incorporated into the TK gene. Such an ILTV mutant can be applied as a vector vaccine to induce an immune response after infection of an appropriate host animal.
