5281558 CLONING METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR HIERARCHICAL COMPACTION Cyrus S Bamji, Ravi Varadarajan assigned to Cadence Design Systems Inc A computer system and computer-implemented method for compacting the geometrical area of a hierarchical integrated circuit layout. The present invention is particularly adapted for use with layouts including over-the-cell routing (OTCR). The inventive method includes the general steps of normalizing the cells, compacting the cells, then reconstructing the layout that includes the normalized cells. More particularly, the step of normalizing the cells includes initial step of identifying an overlapping object produced from the OTCR that overlaps one of the instances. That overlapping object is then divided into an overlapping segment and a non-overlapping segment. The overlapping segment is then removed from the cell and copied into the leaf cell of the overlapped instance. The overlapping segment is defined as a special object of the cell into which it is copied.

and assayed for anti-amylin effects by disclosed methods.

5281694 METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS FOR PRODUCTION OF MYCOPLASMAL ADHESINS Joel Baseman, C J Su, S Dallo assigned to The University of Texas Board of Regents The molecular cloning and nucleotide sequence of the complete structural gene encoding Mycoplasma pneumoniae P I cytadhesin and the amino acid sequence of the protein is described. The present invention provides recombinant DNA clones encoding the complete P1 protein as well as clones expressing PI polypeptides with cytadhesin epitopes. The substantially purified nucleic acid molecules, recombinant vectors, recombinant cells, and recombinant polypeptides of the present invention are useful as hybridization probes and immunodiagnostic reagents and may be used to prepare antimycoplasmal vaccines.

5281710 5281581 TREATMENT OF INSULIN RESISTANCE Garth J S Cooper, Howard Greene, Woodstock, CA, United Kingdom assigned to Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc Compounds and methods for blocking the effects of diabetes-associated peptide, or amylin, a hormone found in the amyloid masses of Type 2 diabetics. This putative hormone has been discovered to function both to inhibit insulin secretion and to inhibit glycogen synthesis. Regulation is accomplished by blocking the binding of amylin or amylin agonists, including calcitonin gene related peptide (CGRP), or biologically active sub-peptides thereof. Inhibitors include substituted peptides or sub-peptides of amylin or CGRP, cross-linked amylin and amylin agonists, synthetic amylin, anti-amylin receptor antibodies and anti-idiotype antibodies, and antibodies directed to arnylin and amylin agonist active sites. Other antagonists include organic compounds which can be screened

DYNEMICIN ANALOGS: SYNTHESIS, METHODS OF PREPARATION AND USE Adrian L Smith, Chan-Kou Hwang, Sebastian V Wenderborn, Kyriacos C Nicolaou, Erwin Schreiner, Wilhelm Stahl, Wei-Min Dai, Peter Maligres, Toshi Suzuki, Bishops Stortford, CA, United Kingdom assigned to The Scripps Research Institute A fused ring system compound is disclosed that contains an epoxide group on one side of the fused rings and an enediyne macrocyclic ring on the other side of the fused rings. The compounds have DNA-cleaving, antimicrobial and tumor growth-inhibiting properties. Chimeric compounds having the fused ring system compound as an aglycone bonded to (i) a sugar moiety as the oligosaecharide portion Or (ii) a monoclonal antibody or antibody combining site portion thereof that immunoreacts with target tumor cells are also disclosed. Compositions containing a compound or a chimer are disclosed, as are methods of preparing a compound.
