5403917 PROCESS FOR THE QUANTITATIVE SELECTIVE REMOVAL OR PREPARATIVE ISOLATION OF TUMOUR NECROSIS FACTOR (TNF) OR/AND LIPOPOLYSACCHARIDES (LPS) FROM AQUEOUS LIQUIDS Boos Karl-Siegfried; Siedel Dietrich; von der Haar Friedric Gauting, GERMANY Assigned to B Braun Melsungen AG For the quantitative selective removal or/and preparative isolation of tumour necrosis factor (TNF) or/and lipopolysaccharides from aqueous liquids, in particular blood, plasma or serum, the aqueous liquid is passed over an adsorption material which consists of a porous supporting material to which functional groups made of synthetic or/and semisynthetic or/and natural polyanion chains and namely in a linear or branched form, are covalently bound and if desired, the molecules chromatographically separated in this way are eluted from the adsorption material using a saline solution. A device according to the present invention for the extracorporeal removal of tumour necrosis factor and/or lipopolysaccharides (LPS) from aqueous liquids, in particular blood, plasma or serum, consists of a cylindrical housing which is filled with an adsorption material which consists of a porous supporting material to which functional groups made of synthetic or/and semisynthetic or/and natural polyanion chains and namely in a linear or branched form, are covalently bound and is provided with covers at its front ends which each have a central inlet and outlet.

5403925 NUCLEIC ACIDS ENCODING MAMMALIAN H-2RIIBP OR RXR BETAAND USES THEREOF Ozato Keiko Kensington, MD, UNITED STATES Assigned to The United States of America as represented by the Department of Health and Human Services The present invention relates generally to the identification and characterization of new genes and proteins. More particularly, the present

invention relates to the discovery of novel members of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily and cDNA clones thereof. The family members are designated as H-2RIIBP (or RXR beta, retinoid x receptors). These proteins bind selectively only to the native region II sequence of the conserved major histocompatibility complex class I regulatory element (MHC CRE). Sequences homologous to the H-2RIIBP gene are found in the nuclear receptor family including: retinoic acid receptors (RAR), estrogen receptors (ER), thyroid hormone receptors (TR), (COUPTF), and other RXR isoformes. This invention also provides for a diagnostic test which determines the natureand progression of a human tumor by measuring the quantity and quality of H2RIIBP gene dosage or expression.

5403928 FLUORESCENT MARKER COMPONENTS AND FLUORESCENT PROBES Arrhenuis Peter O G San Diego, CA, UNITED STATES Assigned to Diatron Corporation Marker components are provided which are compatible with aqueous solutions, exhibit favorable fluorescence properties and exhibit decreased non-specific binding to macromolecules in solution. These marker components are useful in applications such as fluorescence immunoassays, in vivo imaging and in vivo tumor therapy.

5404802 CHEESE TOWER Millerbemd Ralph J; Blackwell Alan J; Schmitz David P Winsted, MN, UNITED STATES Assigned to Millerbernd Design & Fabrication A cheese formation tower wherein cheese curds and attendant whey are introduced into the upper portion of a vertical, low friction material lined, tower and the whey is extracted through gravitational, differential pressure/relative vacuum and vibration techniques. As the material reaches the lower portion of the tower the whey has been substantially extracted to provide the formed cheese product. A guillotine or cutting arrangement is provided to cut the formed cheese to suitable lengths which are then extracted from
