comprising the steps of contacting an antibodycontaining sample from the subject with a detectable amount of the tagA antigen or antigenic fragment of the present invention and detecting the reaction of the antigen or fragment and the antibody. A mutant H. pylori not expressing a functional tagA antigen is also provided.
DNA, e.g genomic DNA, may initially be amplified by the PCR method using at least one oligonucleotide primer which is either attached to a solid support or carries means for attachment to a solid support.

ACIDS ENCODING
M A M M A L I A N H-2RIIBP OR R X R BETAAND USES THEREOF Ozato Keiko Kensington, MD, UNITED STATES Assigned to The United States of America as represented by the Department of Health and Human Services The present invention relates generally to the identification and characterization of new genes and proteins. More particularly, the present invention relates to the discovery of novel members of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily and cDNA clones thereof. The family members are designated as H-2RIIBP (or RXR beta, retinoid x receptors). These proteins bind selectively only to the native region II sequence of the conserved major histocompatibility complex class I regulatory element (MHC CRE). Sequences homologous to the H-2RI1BP gene are found in the nuclear receptor family including: retinoic acid receptors (RAR), estrogen receptors (ER), thyroid hormone receptors (TR), (COUPTF), and other RXR isoformes. This invention also provides for a diagnostic test which determines the natureand progression of a human tumor by measuring the quantity and quality of H2RIIBP gene dosage or expression.

OF SEQUENCING
DNA
Uhlen Mathias Uppsala, SWEDEN Assigned to Cemu Bioteknik AB The invention relates to a method of sequencing target DNA in which said DNA is provided in double stranded form immobilized on a solid support via one terminus of one of the two strands thereof and is then subjected to strand separation whereby the unattached strand is removed prior to sequencing the immobilized strand. The target

Bases modified to accept fluorescent labels are used to replicate a single DNA or RNA strand to be sequenced. The bases are then sequentially cleaved from the replicated strand, excited with a chosen spectrum of electromagnetic radiation, and the fluorescence from individual, tagged bases detected in the order of cleavage from the strand.
5405751 PRENATAL DIAGNOSIS BY CYTOKINE-INDUCED PROLIFERATION OF FETAL TCELLS Roncarolo Maria-Grazia Los Altos, CA, UNITED STATES Assigned to Schering Corporation The invention provides improved methods of prenatal diagnosis that can be performed earlier in pregnancy, and/or with greater safety, and/or rapidity, and/or with greater accuracy than conventional methods. A volume of amniotic fluid containing fetal cells is extracted from a pregnant woman, and the fetal T-cells are propagated in a culture medium comprising one or more cytokines. The fetal T-cells are then diagnosed for genetic defects.
