PATENT ABSTRACTS voltage is applied, are sampled at predeterminedtime intervals. A decreasing curve of current is predicted on the basis of the sampled current values. A sample is injected in said buffer solution at an early time before the current between enzyme electrodes become stable, whereby oxidation reaction of a specified component of the sample is caused. A current value I1 between enzyme electrodes is measured and simultaneously a current value T2 on the decreasing curve is obtained at a point that a predetermined time passes from the sample injection point to obtain a current increase from the sample injection on the basis of a difference of the current values I1 and I2. A quantity of the specified component of the sample is obtained on the basis of the current increase.
5407800 REVERSE TRANSCRIPTION WITH THERMUS THERMOPHILUS POLYMERASE Gelfand David H; Myers Thomas W Oakland, CA, UNITED STATES Assigned to Hoffmann-La Roche Inc Methods are provided for the replication and amplification of RNA sequences by thermoactive DNA polymerases. Reverse transcription of RNA is catalyzed by, for example, 94 kDa Taq, 62 kDa Taq, and recombinant Tth DNA polymerase. Reverse transcription is coupled to PCR amplification in a one enzyme procedure using a thermostable polymerase.
5407803 METHOD FOR MEASURING THE ACTIVITY OF ANGIOTENSIN CONVERTING ENZYME IN BIOLOGICAL SAMPLES Brunner Hans R; Nussberger Juer SWITZERLAND Assigned to B M Corporation B V
Pully, R A
The activity of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) is measured in biological samples as body fluids. ACE-activity is estimated in minimally diluted specimens, using the natural substrate angiotensin I at close to physiological concentration. Femtomoles of generated angiotensin II axe trapped by specific high affinity

monoclonal antibodies and thus protected from degradation by angiotensinases during the incubation step. The same antibodies are subsequently used for quantitation by radioimmunoassay.
5407804 ASSAYS FOR 0 6 METHYLGUANINE-DNA METHYLTRANSFERASE Yarosh Daniel Merrick, NY, UNITED STATES Assigned to Applied Genetics Inc Assays for the DNA repair protein 06methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) are provided which employ monoclonal antibodies prepared using MGMT having transferase activity, as opposed to denatured MGMT or MGMT fragments. The monoclonal antibodies are able to recognize MGMT in single cell preparations (immunohistochemical staining assays) and in cell extracts (immunoassays). In connection with immunohistochemical staining, the use of a fluorescent readout coupled with digitization of the cell image allows for quantitative measures of MGMT levels in, for example, tumor biopsy samples. Such quantitative measures can be used to determine which patients are likely to benefit from chemotherapy using alkylating agents since tumor cells having low MGMT levels are more likely to be killed by such agents than those with high MGMT levels.
5409692 GLUCOSYLTRANSFERASE INHIBITORS, AS WELL AS DENTAL CARIES PREVENTION METHODS AND ANTICARIOUS FOODS USING THE SAME Nakahara Koichi; Ono Hiroyuki; Ognra Kyoichi lbaraki, JAPAN Assigned to Suntory Limited Glucosyltransferase inhibitors containing as an active ingredient an extract of fermented tea leaves are described. Illustrative examples of the fermented tea leaves include Oolong tea, black tea and Pu-erh tea. Also described are foods or beverages for the prevention of dental caries, which contain an effective amount of one of such iahibitors. Dental caries can be prevented by taking such foods or beverages.
