PATENT ABSTRACTS

phenylalanine or L-phenylalanine or a mixture thereof in the presence of a gaseous oxygencontaining composition such as air and in aqueous media; and finally recovering phenylacetic acid from the fermentation broth.

containing such DNA segments and to host cells transformed with such constructs. The viral isolates and envelope proteins of the present invention are of value for use in vaccines and bioassays for the detection of HIV-1 infection in biological samples, such as blood bank samples.

5420029 5420033 MUTATED THERMOSTABLE NUCLEIC ACID P O L Y M E R A S E ENZYME FROM THERMOTOGA MARITIMA Gelfand David H; Lawyer Frances C; Stoffel Susann Oakland, CA, UNITED STATES Assigned to Hoffmann-La Roche lnc PCT No. PCT/US91/05753 Sec. 371 Date Feb. 3, 1993 Sec. 102(e) Date Feb. 3, 1993 PCT Filed Aug. 13, 1991 PCT Pub. No. WO92/03556 PCT Pub. Date Mar. 5, 1992. A purified thermostable enzyme is derived from the eubacterium Thermotoga maritima. The enzyme has a molecular weight as determined by gel electrophoresis of about 97 kilodaltons and DNA polymerase I activity. The enzyme can be produced from native or recombinant host cells and can be used with primers and nucleoside triphosphates in a temperature-cycling chain reaction where at least one nucleic acid sequence is amplified in quantity from an existing sequence.

EPITHELIAL CELL LINE EXPRESSING A CYSTIC FIBROSIS P H E N O T Y P E Jetten Anton M Durham, NC, UNITED STATES Assigned to The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services An airway epithelial cell line (CF/T43) was developed by infecting cultured cystic fibrosis (CF) airway epithelial cells with the pZIPneoSV(X)I/SV40T retrovirus and selecting for Genetian (G418) resistance and ion transport properties. The distinctive chloride secretory phenotype of CF/T43 (an apical membrane chloride permeability (Pcl-) activated by calciummediated, but not by adenosine 3',5'monophosphate (cAMP)-dependent agonists) was not perturbed by SV40T-induced cell transformation. Epithelial cell lines generated from CF cells with the SV40T gene can be used to test candidate CF genes, to evaluate the molecular mechanisms responsible for the CF phenotype and to test putative therapeutic CF drugs.

The present invention relates to DNA segments encoding the envelope protein of MN-STl or BA-L, to DNA constructs

5420237 E N Z Y M A T I C SYNTHESIS OF POLYANILINE Zemel Haya; Quinn John F Wilmette, IL, UNITED STATES Assigned to AlliedSignal Inc This invention relates to a process for the enzymatic synthesis of electrically conductive substituted and unsubstituted polyanilines. Aniline monomer(s), an oxidizing agent, which comprises an enzyme and an electron acceptor, and an acidifying agent are reacted together to form polyanilines.
