5436330 HAMMERHEAD RIBOZYMES WITH ENHANCED STABILITY PROVIDED BY AN ADDITIONAL 3' H A I R P I N S E Q U E N C E Taira Kazunari; Oda Masanao; Shinshi Hideaki; Furukawa Kensuke; Maeda Hidekatsu Tsukuba, JAPAN assigned to Agency oflndustrial Science & Technology; Ministry of International Trade & Indust A DNA fragment is disclosed which has connected to the downstream side of a first DNA sequence containing a region coding for the first ribozyme RNA a second DNA sequence containing a region coding for second ribozyme RNA capable of cleaving by self-processing the 3'-terminus site of the first ribozyme RNA subjected to transcription. A ribozyme having the 3'-terminus site thereof self-processed is obtained by effecting transcription of a RNA using as a template a recombinant vector obtained by recombination by the use of the DNA fragment.
5436386 HYBRID SAFFLOWER PRODUCTION UTILIZING GENETIC DWARF MALE STERILITY Weisker Arthur C Woodland, CA, UNITED STATES assigned to Seedtec International Inc The invention is directed to the identification of a safflower gene that exhibits male sterility in combination with a morphologically identifiable dwarfism in the male sterile plant and to the production of hybrid safflower that uses this safflower gene.
5436389 HYBRID GENETIC COMPLEMENT AND CORN PLANT DK570 Pfund John H Sycamore, IL, UNITED STATES assigned to DeKalb Genetics Corp

This invention relates generally to the production of maize, commonly known in the United States as corn, and more specifically to hybrid corn plants with certain advantageous phenotypes resulting from interactions of the haploid genetic contributions of inbred parental lines. This invention relates to the hybrid genetic complement, the expression of which produces these phenotypes and to the complement as housed in seeds and tissues, in particular, those capable of producing or regenerating the hybrid plants either in vivo or in vitro. An aspect of this invention, hybrid DK570, is characterized by many advantageous phenotypic traits including superior yield and standability, i.e. root lodging. It has characteristic restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) and isozyme profiles.
5436391 SYNTHETIC INSECTICIDAL GENE, PLANTS OF THE GENUS ORYZA TRANSFORMED WITH THE GENE, AND PRODUCTION THEREOF Fujimoto Hideya; Ito Kimiko; Yamamoto Mikihir; Shimamoto Ko Tokyo, JAPAN assigned to Mitsubishi Corporation; Mitsubishi Kasei Corporati A synthetic gene encoding an insecticidal protein, the gene is provided having a base sequence which has been modified to bring the codon usage in conformity with the genes of gramineous plants particularly rice plants. A preferred gene sequence is shown in SEQ ID NO: 1. An expression vector containing said structural gene is provided. A method for producing recombinant gramineous plants is provided, which comprises transforming protoplasts derived from gramineons plants with the vector, incubating the protoplasts in a liquid medium in the presence of cultured cells of the plants to form colonies and regenerating plants from said colonies. Recombinant gramineous plants having resistance against insects are also provided.
