heat-transfer liquid is provided between the crystallizer and the cooler whereby the heat recovery process is achieved.
5440668 Nilsson Bengt Skoghall, SWEDEN Assigned to Gotaverken Energy Aktiebolag PCT No. PCT/SE92/00350 Sec. 371 Date Nov. 30, 1993 Sec. 102(e) Date Nov. 30, 1993 PCT Filed May 25, 1992 PCT Pub. No. WO92/21815 PCT Pub. Date Dec. 10, 1992. A method of recovering energy and chemicals from a spent liquor which, after thickening to a dry content of 50-90%, is fed into a reaction chamber (1) in which a plurality of temperature zones are maintained, said method comprising the steps of (a) converting the liquid phase in the spent liquor to a steam phase, (b) thermally decomposing the spent liquor to form gaseous organic substances and solid and/or molten organic and inorganic substances, (c) reducing and (d) oxidizing said substances produced during the thermal decomposition, oxygen or oxygen-containing gas being supplied to the reaction chamber (1) in a controlled amount in order to maintain the reactions, which comprise combustion of organic substances, and a bed of said solid and/or molten substances being formed in a lower temperature zone in the reaction chamber (1). According to the invention said steps are carried out during exposure to low frequency sound.
5440005 PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR SOLID PHASE POLYMERIZATION OF POLYMERS Pikus Ilya Plymouth, MN, UNITED STATES Assigned to Hosokawa Bepex Corporation A process and apparatus for the solid phase polymerization of polymers wherein cold amorphous polymer is introduced to a crystallizer. Hot heat transfer liquid is employed in the crystallizer for heating the polymer through indirect heat exchange to crystallize the polymer. The crystallized polymer is discharged to a reactor for solid phase polymerization, and then passed from the reactor to a cooler. Cold heat transfer liquid is employed in the cooler to cool the polymer through indirect heat exchange. A forced recirculation closed-loop system for the
ELECTRODE BOILER WITH AUTOMATIC DRAIN CONTROL RESPONSIVE TO MEASURED ELECTRODE CURRENT Jones Howard C Haywards Heath, UNITED KINGDOM Assigned to Eaton-Williams Group Limited An electrode boiler comprises a container for containing water and electrodes within the container which serves to pass electrical current through such water and which is generally upright when in use. Feed and drain systems are connected to the container to enable water to be fed to and drained therefrom. An outlet is provided through which steam generated inside the container can pass. An electrode current indicator provides an indication of the value of the electrical current passing through the electrodes. A controlling computer is connected to the feed and drain systems and the electrode current indicator. The controlling computer is set to cause the feed system to open when a predetermined drop in the electrode current has occurred owing to a boiling away of water from the boiler, and then to cause the feed system to close when a predetermined increase in the electrode current has occurred owing to the introduction of water into the boiler. Currentincrease-rate measuring device is provided in the controlling computer to provide a measure of the rate of increase of electrode current when the feed system is opened. The controlling computer is to open the drain system, for a drain period, in dependence upon the measured value of the current-increase-rate.
