PATENT ABSTRACTS

5451658 ANTAGONISTS OF HUMAN GAMMA INTERFERON

Seelig Gail F Watchung, NJ, UNITED STATES assigned to Schering Corporation

PCT No. PCTAJS91/06771 Sec. 371 Date Mar. 19, 1993 Sec. 102(e) Date Mar. 19, 1993 PCT Filed Sep. 25, 1991 PCT Pub. No. WO92/06115 PCT Pub. Date Apr. 16, 1992. Novel synthetic polypeptides having amino acid sequences corresponding to the sequence of one or more specific regions of human gamma interferon are provided by this invention. These polypeptides specifically inhibit the binding of human gamma interferon to cellular receptors and the biological activity of such interferon. Antibody antagonists of the binding of human gamma interferon to cellular receptors based Upon the use of the polypeptides as antigens are also provided. Some of these antagonists bind to specific regions of gamma interferon which are believed to be involved in interactions between the interferon and its receptors. Other antibody antagonists are anti-idiotypic antibodies which appear to compete directly with gamma interferon for binding to the cellular receptors. Also provided are methods for the use of the polypeptides and antibodies as inhibitors of the binding of gamma interferon to its cellular receptors.

5451659 POLYPEPTIDE, DNA FRAGMENT ENCODING THE SAME, DRUG COMPOSITION CONTAINING THE SAME AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME Morishita Hideak; Kanamori Toshinori; Nobuhara Masahiro Tokyo, JAPAN assigned to Mochida Pharmaceutical Co Ltd This invention particularly provides a novel polypeptide having high protease-inhibiting activity, preferably FXa-inhibiting activity, which comprises, at least as a part of the polypeptide, an amino acid sequence resulting from substitution of an amino acid for at least one amino acid in the following amino acid sequence (1), wherein the amino acid substitution is at least one substitution selected from the following substitution means (i) to (iii). It also provides a process for the production of the polypeptide, a novel DNA fragment encoding the polypeptide and a drug composition containing the same. (*See Patent for Tabular Presentation*) PS (i) Substitution of 15 position Gin counting from the N-terminus by an amino acid other than Gin. (ii) Substitution of 42 position Tyr counting from the N-terminus by an amino acid other than Tyr. (iii) Substitution of 7 position Arg counting from the N-terminus by an amino acid other than Arg.
