operation, allows easy and economical assembly. Two principles of solar hot-water heating are combined in the invention: primarily cold water is raised to the desired final temperature in ONE PASS through the absorber, thereby achieving good collector efficiencies and rapid response; and, when the storage is full, thermosiphoning circulation sets-in automatically and further heats the storage content and/or compensates for heat losses.

5462668 USE O F S T E A M T O C O N D E N S A T E T O DILUTE BRINE STREAM ADDITIVES Gallup Darrell L; Featherstone John L; Flint Carl E Chino, CA, UNITED STATES Assigned to Union Oil Company of California Additives are usually diluted before they are added to a geothermal brine processing stream. It has been found that one preferred diluent is the conditioned steam condensate produced after power generation in the geothermal plants. One class of additives beneficially diluted by the conditioned steam condensate are crystal structure modifiers. When it is diluted with the steam condensate, the heat-sensitive crystal structure modifier is prevented from being degraded by the heat of the brine so that when blended with the geothermal brine the crystal structure modifier can perform its function of inhibiting the precipitation of alkaline earth salts.

5481105 NEUTRON BACKSCATTER GRAVEL P A C K L O G G I N G SONDE W I T H A Z I M U T H A L SCAN C A P A B I L I T Y Gold Rand Houston, TX, UNITED STATES Assigned to Halliburton Company An apparatus (sonde) and method of measuring

density, or gravel pack quality, in a cased well borehole using a fast neutron source and one or more thermal neutron detectors, is described. In one embodiment, a neutron source creates a fast neutron flux which reacts primarily with the material within the borehole casing while a collocated neutron detector counts the number of backscattered thermal neutrons. A novel means of obtaining azimuthal measurement discrimination is provided by a rotating neutron shield. In one instance the shield is quite substantial, creating a narrow measurement window. In another instance, the shield only marginally screens the detector, creating a large measurement window. In an alternative embodiment, a second thermal neutron detector is spaced distally from the neutron source and first detector. This second detector is used to provide a measurement of the borehole's background, or environmental neutron activity, and can be used to improve the quality of the sonde's gravel pack density measurement. 5501277 COMBATING LOST CIRCULATION DURING THE DRILLING OF WELLS Onan David D; Brake Bobby G, Lawton, OK, UNITED STATES Assigned to Halliburton Company The present invention provides improved methods of combating lost drilling fluid circulation in wells, particularly in wells penetrating vugular and naturally fractured formations such as geothermal wells. The methods basically comprise the steps of forming a quick set cementitious composition which when drilled after setting produces cuttings compatible with the drilling fluid being used, introducing the cementitious composition into the drilling fluid thief zone in the well, allowing the composition to set into a cementitious plug in the thief zone and then continuing the drilling of the well bore through and below the cementitious plug.
