PatentsALERT power supply is then connected to the fault condition identification storage element. The photoelectric power supply may be provided with a battery backup system for use when there is insufficient light incident on a photo cell to power system. The battery backup may be a rechargeable battery in the power supply can include a battery charger. The configuration of the power supply, including the photocell battery charger and backup battery allows the system to operate without drawing power from an engine CD ignition power supply.

SOLAR THIN FILM COATING

Wolfe Jesse D; Belkind Abraham; Laird Ronald E; San Ramon, CA, UNITED STATES assigned to The BOC Group Inc An infrared reflecting interference filter capable of transmitting a desired proportion of visible radiation while reflecting a large portion of incident solar radiation is provided. The filter comprises a transparent substrate onto which is deposited a dielectric layer, followed by metal and dielectric layers. In between each of the dielectric and metal layers is deposited a precoat layer that promotes adhesion between the dielectric and the metal. One aspect of the invention is the use of a film comprising nickel and chromium nitride for each of the metal precoat layers. These precoat layers are thin so that there is less absorption of visible light but yet maintains good adhesive properties. Another aspect of the invention is the use of silver as the metal layer. Specifically, silver is sputtered in an atmosphere containing a mixture of nitrogen and argon or other inert gas. It was found that the presence of nitrogen produces a silver layer that is more durable than silver films sputtered in an atmosphere containing essentially pure inert gas. In one embodiment, the interference filter comprises a glass substrate onto which is deposited a thin-film design consisting of five layers, namely: titanium dioxide, nickel-chromium nitride, silver, nickel-chromium nitride, and silicon nitride.

R O O F M O D U L E H A V I N G AN INTEGRAL SOLAR ENERGY CONCENTRATOR Myles John F; Nicklas Michael H; Gerics Louis J; Pittsboro, NC, UNITED STATES The present invention relates to a roof module having an integral solar energy concentrator. The present modules can be combined to form a weathertight roof with an integral solar concentrator. Radiant solar energy can be collected from this modular roof using reflected solar energy collectors, among other solar energy concentrating or energy transferring elements. The present invention results in a lower weight and easier to install system for placing solar energy concentrators atop a structure, and thus, lower the cost collecting radiant solar energy from atop a building or roofed structure.

AIR CONDITIONING DEVICE

Kato Keno; Noji Ikutaro; Arai Masashi; Fukubayashi Makot; Yokohama, JAPAN assigned to Nissan Motor Co Ltd A control system for an automotive air conditioner has an ambient air temperature sensor; a solar radiation quantity sensor; a passenger room temperature sensor; a cooled air temperature sensor; an air-mix door open degree sensor; and a bypass door open degree sensor. The control system further has a first device which, based on information from the ambient air temperature sensor and the solar radiation quantity sensor, derives a first target temperature of air drawn out from an air outlet structure; a second device which, based on the information from the cooled air temperature sensor and the air-mix door open degree sensor, derives a second target temperature of air drawn out from a foot area air duct; and a third device which, based on the information from the cooled air temperature sensor, the first target temperature and the second

target temperature, derives a ratio between the amount of air flowing in a bypass passage and that of air blown out from the air outlet structure; and a fourth device which controls the open degree of the bypass door in accordance with the derived ratio.

5564814 REMOTE CONTROL ILLUMINATION SYSTEM Anderson Derek N; Calgary Alberta, CANADA An illumination device for a household remote control comprising a resiliently flexible C-shaped support having a first end that engages the top surface of the remote control and a second end that engages the bottom surface of the remote control. A light source is supported within the C-shaped support for lighting the top surface of the remote control and is powered by a solar power cell. If the solar power cell fails, a battery provides back-up power to the light source. The C-shaped support also preferably has a window therethrough for allowing the remote signal of the remote control to pass through the window and operate the television or VCR.

5565068 ENERGY CONSERVATION DURING PLURAL STAGE DISTILLATION Parker Stuart J; Sliger Arlen G; Hwan Rei-Yu J; Houston, TX, UNITED STATES assigned to Texaco Development Corporation In the multistage distillation of a methyl tertiary butyl ether reaction product comprising methyl tertiary butyl ether, tertiary butyl alcohol, methanol, isobutylene and water, the methyl tertiary butyl ether reaction product is separated in a primary methyl tertiary butyl ether distillation column into a lower boiling methyl tertiary butyl ether fraction and a higher boiling aqueous tertiary butyl alcohol fraction; the lower boiling aqueous tertiary butyl alcohol fraction is separated in a tertiary butyl

alcohol distillation column into a vaporized overhead tertiary butyl alcohol fraction and a higher boiling water fraction; cooling water is charged to the reflux condenser for the tertiary butyl alcohol distillation column to liquify the vaporized, overhead tertiary butyl alcohol fraction and to convert the cooling water to wet steam, and the wet steam is independently charged to the reboiler for the primary methyl tertiary butyl ether distillation zone to supply the heat necessary for the distillation to be effected therein.

5565388 BRONZE GLASS COMPOSITION Krumwiede John; Shelestak Larry J; Longobardo Anthony; Cheswick, PA, UNITED STATES assigned to PPG Industries Inc The present invention provides a glass composition having a bronze color and a luminous (visible) transmittance of 70% or greater. The base glass is a soda-lime-silica composition and iron and selenium are added as colorants. In one particular embodiment of the invention, a bronze colored glass with a luminous transmittance (C.I.E. illuminant A) of 70% and higher at a thickness of 4.1 millimeters may be attained by using as colorants: 0.4 to 0.6 wt. % Fe203, 0,09 to 0.17 wt. % FeO and 3 to 11 PPM Se. In addition, it is preferred that the total solar energy transmittance be no greater than 60%.
