2.2. 7th ORDINARY SESSION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE INTERNATIONAL UNION OF GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES2
Below is given some information of interest to the COSPAR community on decisions from the 7th Ordinary Session of the Council of the IUGS held in Moscow, USSR, in August 1984. New Members: Algeria, Belize, Burundi, Ecuador, Jamaica, and Upper Volta were accepted as new members of the IUGS. Creation of a New IUGS Body on Remote Sensing: The IUGS Council approved creation of a Standing Committee on Remote Sensing. The Chairman of this new Standing Committee is Dr. P. Teleki (USA) and the Secretary is Dr. C. Weber (France). Election of New Oficers of the IUGS: The following officers were elected:

In addition, the following officers were re-elected: J. A. Reinemund (USA), Treasurer, and, as Vice-Presidents, Gunnar Kautsky (Sweden), Zofia KielanJaworowska (Poland), and Cornelius Kogbe (Nigeria). As a consequence of the change in the post of Secretary-General, the IUGS Secretariat has moved to Trondheim, Norway. Until transfer of the Secretariat, Dr. Christian Weber acted as Past Secretary-General for an interim period; Eugen Seibold automatically becomes IUGS Past-President. COSPAR transmits its most sincere congratulations to all newly elected officers of IUGS and, in particular, to Prof. V. L. Barsukov, who is also deeply involved in COSPAR activities, as Chairman of the COSPAR Interdisciplinary Scientific Commission B on Space Studies of the Earth-Moon System, Planets and Small Bodies of the Solar System. The COSPAR Secretariat also takes this opportunity to express its appreciation to Dr. C. Weber for the excellent co-operation enjoyed with the IUGS Secretariat during his tenure of office.
