46 907. A bakeable and direct joint between a fused quartz tube and a metal one. (Great Britain)
A method is described for joining quartz tubes to Kovar tubes under vacuum, using inductive heating, and titanium braze. The leakages obtained are less than 1 torr litre se@ after tests, and the joints may operate at a temperature of 400°C and at 20 atm or in vacuum. Vapour pressure of lithium was determined at temperatures from 1881 to 2286°F and pressures from 0.96 to 7.86 psia. Although experimental difficulties prevented extension of the work to higher temperatures, the data agree with those of other investigations.
