Good agreement was obtained between results of calculation and measurement. Next, parameter studies of dynamic stress on valve speed, inclination at closure and mass distribution were done. As a result, an evaluation method of dynamic stress was demonstrated.

Kido (Mazda Motor Corporation) Potential effects of a collision warning system must be tested in a man-m-the-loop conditions. Driving simulators are expected to be an effective means for such purpose. This study first validated the effectiveness of motion systems with a large longitudinal stroke in simulating a crash imminent situation and driver’s emergency braking. Then, the simulator test was successfully applied to investigate the effect of a collision warning system on driver’s behavior and collision frequencies. The results showed that a proper collision warning would have a significant effect in reducing mar-end collisions.

consumption and operating patterns is different among 2-lane 2-way streets, multi-lane streets and metropolitan expressways. Vehicle fuel consumption in running mode fluctuates depending upon vehicle operating patterns in running mode. In this study, characteristics of operating patterns in running mode are analyzed and categorized using the spectrum analysis method, and the relationship between the characteristics and fuel consumption in running mode is examined.

9539599 The “Guideway Bus” with Dual Mode Driving characteristics - The Suitable Vehicle for Aging Societies - Hajime Ariga (Ex-Nissan Motor Co.) The increase of vehicle-based society poses increasing problems for older people, including exhaust gas and traffic danger. Increasing public transportation in cities will reduce exhaust gas problems. The “Guideway Bus” with Dual Mode Driving characteristics (allowing driving on both guideway and ordinary roads), which can be driven directly from suburbs to the city centre without changing buses, will be of major benefit to old people. It also allows lower construction costs.

Research Institute, Inc.) Several experiments were carried out to investigate the driver’s thresholds of movement sensations using a driving simulator. Sinuous movements were presented where the amplitudes were gradually increasing or decreasing in various frequencies, and subjects were required to respond by pushing a button when they felt movement sensations, in each of longitudinal, lateral, rolling and pitching direction. Effects of simultaneous presentation of movements were also examined. As a result, thresholds of sensations in each direction were obtained, and the tbresholds were increased when the movements were presented in combined form. ITS Study of Driver’s Behavior using Driving Simulator Driver’s Behavior in Emergency Situation - Takehiko Fujioka, Koji

Muramatsu, Makoto Aso (The University of Tokyo) In autonomous driving, a suitable man-machine interface different from the current system is required. Driver’s behavior and reaction in an emergency situation is a critical case. In this study, driver’s behavior and reaction in an unintentional switching from autonomous driving to conventional driving is investigated. The required warning time before an unintentional switching is scrutinized statistically, using a driving simulator. 9539482 A study on Vehicle Energy Consumption Influenced by On-street-parked Vehicles - An Analysis with Traftic Simulation Satoshi Okamoto, Masaaki Taniguchi, Yasuhisa Kishi, Takashi Oguchi (Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.) On-street-parking is one factor causing traffic congestion. In particular, parked vehicles near an intersection will reduce the outflow traffic congestion even when the traffic demand is low. Furthermore, slower vehicle speed due to such traffic congestion will increase fuel consumption. The authors evaluated the influence of on-street-parking on traffic flow with a traffic simulation to analyze how traffic flow rate is affected by the location of on-street-parking, traffic demand, and the rate of traffic volume on each lane. Further, the authors carried out a case study to estimate the influence of on-street-parking on traffic flow assuming a 2-lane 2-way road. In this case study, the location and the time period of on-street-parking are changed to calculate the loss of travel time and fuel economy. 9539491

Development of Traffic Simulation and an Applied Exam9539518 ple Ryoji Nakagawa, Hiroyuki Oshika, Masahiro Kuno, Masahiro Hirayama (Toyota Motor Corporation) Traffic simulation is an effective method for analyzing various phenomena of traffic. In the study of city road networks, this traffic simulation system is being developed for the purpose of analyzing traffic flows, by reproducing movements of cars at intersections in particular. This report introduces the simulation system and its application to a part of the Toyota City network. 9539527 A Study on the Effect of Modal Shift in Automobile Component Parts Delivery Koji Sato, TON Takagi, Kazuyoshi Okada (Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.) Nissan has been promoting modal shift in automobile component parts delivery between the Kanto and Kyushu areas. The modal shift plan is considered to be a prospective way to cope with social issues such as the recent shortage of manpower, environmental and energy problems, and the worsening traffic situation. In this study, we quantified the social effects of the modal shift plan by calculating manpower, energy consump tion, CO, emission in each case of truck and ferry transportation using the basic units of fuel consumption and CO, emission. We calculated these basic units from actual fuel consumption and transportation time of truck and ferry. It was found that modal shift can reduce manpower by 76%. energy consumption by 41%, CO, emission by 39% and transportation cost by 3 1%. Accordingly, Nissan’s modal shift will benefit not only the company but also society as a whole. 9539536 Influence of Transportation Demand Management Approach on Commuting by Car Miho Kido, Kayoko Hara, Junichi Kasai (Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.) “Transportation Demand Management” (TDM) is an approach to effectively using anexisting road system. We examined the application of TDM on commuting from the viewpoint of automobile users. As a result we found the significant factors for selecting a suitable transportation mode differ according to the purpose of travel. We also learned that the increased burden imposed on users by the application of TDM is not uniform in some cases. Tints, it is important to study the means for securing uniformity, especially in the case of TDM on commuting. 9539545 Development of Prediction Method of Torsional Vibration on the Drive Line to Support Design Process Naotaka Kakisaka, Hitoshi Nagata, Kunihiko Ando, HiroakiNimura(Toyota MotorCorporation) Predictionmethod of torsional vibration on the drive line is developed wim simulation. Drive line vibration models are prepared for every different type of vehicle, and they were proved by experimental data.
