A new development from Duckworth and Kent The double diamond calliper pictured opposite has been designed by John Pearce specifically to enlarge a 'tunnel' incision following phacoemulsification and prior to lens insertion. Before use the block on the calliper is set exactly to the width required (whether to 3.6 or 3.8 for some foldable lenses or to 5.0 or 5.5 for PMMA lenses). It is easily inserted through a 2.8 or 3.2 phaco slit incision, the thumb screw tumed, and the result is a clean internal wound with an exact measurement. The Duckworth and Kent catalogue number for a diamond on each outside edge is 4-655; there is also a version with a single diamond, 4-650.

New products from Welsh Surgical Microscopes New monocular coaxial teaching-assisting observer-tubes for the portable operating microscopes using beam-splitters have been developed for teaching low-cost ECCE cataract surgery in rural areas of poorer countries. These are 3 inches shorter than their older counter-parts which were 21 inches from the teaching-assistant's eye to the infocus working-field; awkward. In contrast, the surgeon's eyes are only 16 inches from the in-focus working field with our 'clones' of the Zeiss OPMI One converted to portable surgical microscopes. These new shorter coaxial assistants' tubes are light-weight, sturdy, easier to pack and more comfortable for assisting and for teaching. They have a 360-degree rotating prism for placing the field at 12:00. They are manufactured as a special order from the (less-expensive 'clones') Vasconcellos Microscope Company of Brazil along with 70/30 beam-splitters that give 70% of the light to the surgeon and only 30% to the assistant or to the camera. Zoomed video VHS surgical movies can be recorded through these monocular observer-tubes with tiny 'palm-sized' hand-held camcorders. Products are sold for satelite eye surgery or loaned free for mission eye surgery teaching-trips to foreign countries. Contact: Robert C.
