PROC.2ND INT.CONGRESS, IAEG, SAO PAULO, PAP~I~ IV-PC.5, Vl, 1974, 26P. The maln results of a long investigation into the nature and e n ~ e e r i n g properties of residual soils in Brazil are presented. An atten~t is made to establish a correlation between soll profiles, parent rocks, climate and engineering properties of the m~4n types of soils studied.

PROC.3RD CONGRESS ISRM, D ~ V ~ 1974,V2,PART A, P530-534. Dilatancy end nonlinear material response of brittle rocks ere examined using t h e representation theorem of continmnn mechanics. Dilatancy is shown to be a linear function of the pressure squared snd of the second stress-devlation in. variant. Direction-dependent properties induced by stress, such as acoustic wave velocity, and nonlinear tectonic boundary-value problems can be solved if the Hooke's law solution is ~own.
