SVEN ERIK JORGENSEN
Langkaer Vaenge, Vaerl~se, Copenhagen (Denmark) Editor-in-Chief of Ecological Modelling
Since the last editorial appeared, one more year has passed and another volume of "Ecological Modelling" has been published. As a consequence of the last editorial, many reactions were received from the Editorial Advisory Board a b o u t the editorial policy. Several preferred that the journal focus mainly on application-orientated, ecological models, b u t others, including myself, found that since ecological modelling will always be multidisciplinary, it would be unwise to make the choice of subject t o o narrow. The democratic conclusion of this discussion is, therefore, that the journal will continue to publish all p a p e r s concerned with ecological modelling. if, however, we set up a spectrum of the kind of papers which are covered by "ecological modelling" the application-orientated models are still in the centre: Papers a b o u t mathematical problems related to ecological modelling, such as stability, sensitivity etc. Modelling theory.
Papers a b o u t ecological models linked with o t h e r types of models e.g. e c o n o m i c models.
Practical application of ecological models for management.
Ecological models used for description of ecosystems,
Extraction of ecological laws from ecological models and vice versa.
From the titles of the papers which have been published in "Ecological Modelling" to-date, it can be seen that the entire spectrum has been covered and that most papers actually dealt with the application of models. Turning to another aspect, the flow of good scientific papers to the journal is steadily increasing. The quality of most of the papers received has undoubtedly been high enough to justify publication. It is, therefore, most likely that the size of the journal will have to be expanded in the future, probably to two volumes per year in 1978, in order to be able to a c c o m m o d a t e all accepted papers.
