Acoustic second-harmonic generation in pieaoelsctric crystals McMahon, D. H JASA, Vol 44, No 4 (October 1968) p 1007 Extending the treatment of acoustic second harmonic generation to piezoelectric crystals, the investigation relates the effective elastic constants to all of the electric and elastic material constants of the crystal free energy so as to deduce the effect of the piezoelectricity. The calculated effective secon+(and third-) order elastic constants are given and the discussion restricts itself to longitudinal waves along the z-axis in LiNbO, and estimates the relative sizes of terms contributing to the effective elastic constants. Measurements using optical Bragg scattering are used to this effect. The final results give the various terms as fractions of the measured value.
