PATENTS them is significantly small, it does not affect the reciprocation of the displacer. As the seal is provided so as not to be restricted axially and radially, the displacer is kept closely contacted with the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder even if the displacer shifts eccentrically. Cable seal
Applicant: R & D Dynamics Corp, USA A foil thrust bearing forms the primary rotating interface for a film riding face seal. This face seal includes a spring system that allows the entire assembly to translate axially relative to a static attachment. The complete assembly forms a hybrid foil/film riding face seal that shows much promise at being sufficiently flexible to enable operation in a gas turbine engine. The seal includes a flexible top plate having a non-flat surface (under working conditions), and a spring support system to allow the top plate to accommodate axial excursions and out-of-flat distortions. Applicant: Fibrelite Composites Ltd, UK A method of sealing comprising a cable is the subject of this patent. It involves a seal comprising two disc portions that are spaced apart axially by means of one or more spacers. At least one of the discs is transparent or translucent. Holes are drilled according to the number and location of cables and the cables pass through these holes. The cables through the holes followed by the insertion of the seal into a pipe or duct. A sealant is then used to fill in the space between the discs to complete the sealing structure. Patent number: WO 03/005521 Inventor: C. Cooper Publication date: 16 January 2003
Cable form connector Applicant: Robert Bosch GmbH, Germany The invention relates to a cable form connector for producing an electric connection with a counter-connector. It comprises a housing and a contact strip that protrudes from at least one part of the housing. Contact elements and a seal for sealing the electric connection are also provided. The invention is characterized in that the seal is arranged at least partially around the circumference of the cable form connector in the region of transition between the housing and the contact strip, and comprises protruding elements on the contact surface, orientated towards the counter-connector. These protruding elements are perpendicular to the circumference of the seal. The seal itself comprises at least one cavity. Additionally, the cavity can be provided with a core, for increasing Shore hardness. Patent number: WO 03/005494 Inventor: P. Zweigle Publication date: 16 January 2003
Sealing material for fuel cell separator Applicant: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha, Japan This invention concerns a method of applying a sealing material onto a fuel cell separator. The latter includes a seal groove into which a sealing material is applied. The width of the seal groove is set so as to be larger at a part where a sealing material application starts, and at a portion where a sealing material application ends, than at the other portions, The application starting portion and the application ending portion are allowed to cross each other at portions where a seal groove width is larger. This enhances the adhesion between the application starting portion and the 14

Production of vermiculite foil Applicant: Flexitallic Ltd, UK This patent is concerned with gasket sealing foils that have a sealing layer with enhanced properties which is based on chemically-exfoliated vermiculite. The method of producing a sealing foil for gaskets is described. The method comprises a number of steps. These involve the application of a wet sealing foil material to a forming sheet to create a layer. The wet sealing foil layer is partially dried on the forming sheet. The layer is removed from the forming sheet to form a core free gasket sealing foil. Finally the layer is formed (preferably cut) into at least one suitable shape for use in the formation of a gasket. The sealing foil comprises a resilient material, which comprises a chemically-exfoliated vermiculite component in a proportion of at least 25% w/w of the sealing foil, the chemically-exfoliated vermiculite component being at least partially derived from dry chemicallyexfoliated vermiculite. The sealing foil layer may be combined with a gasket support layer before or after the cutting step. Patent number: WO 03/004578 Inventor: J.R. Hoyes and S. Woolfenden Publication date: 16 January 2003
Conduit seal Applicant: Houston Wire & Cable Co, USA An apparatus and method for sealing a conduit is provided. The apparatus includes a cylindrical housing that has an inner chamber and two free running hubs disposed on opposite ends of the cylinder. The free running hubs couple to opposing ends of the conduit. A pair of neoprene membranes are provided within the free running hubs, which isolate the inside of the conduit from the inner chamber of the housing.
The inner chamber is filled with a polyurethanebased epoxy sealant compound. Any air, other gases or moisture trapped within the inner chamber is released through a port in the housing, which is then sealed with a plug. The apparatus forms a hermetic seal between the inside of the conduit and the outside environment. Patent number: WO 03/007447 Inventor: J.E. Widman Publication date: 23 January 2003
Elastomeric sealing element for gas compressor valve Applicant: Delaware Capital Formation Inc, USA This invention relates to the use of elastomers in the sealing element of reciprocating gas compressor valves. These are used to increase the reliability of the gas-tight seal within the reciprocating gas compressor valve and to increase the useful service life of the compressor valve. The elastomeric material is either used as a coating layer on the sealing element of the reciprocating gas compressor valve, or as the entire sealing element. The elastomeric material acts as a cushion to reduce the wear on the sealing element, it provides a superior gas tight seal, and is more tolerant of entrained dirt or liquids in the gas stream thereby increasing the operable life of the valve. Reducing the mean time between reciprocating gas compressor valve failures results in longer reciprocating gas compressor run times for the user, increased revenue generation for the user and safer operation of the equipment. Adaptable air gap baffle seal and system Applicant: Siemens Westinghouse Power Corp, USA A sealing system that can be operated in a confined space is detailed. The seal system includes an access structure that has a positioning channel which is attached (but can be removed) to a first element, and a second element is set apart from the first to provide a gap between them. The seal system also includes a securement portion that is sized and configured to be accepted into and retained by the positioning channel of the access structure and/or the first element. By this configuration, the seal can attain a service orientation, where the seal does not appreciably obstruct the gap, and an operation orientation, where the seal can completely obstruct or essentially completely obstruct the gap. By this configuration, the seal also can also be contorted or moved into a protected area to make room for another object. Patent number: WO 03/009450 Inventor: C.M.
