BUREAU OF LIBRARY AND INDEXING SERVICE

The books listed here have been added recently to the Bureau collection. Re quests for this material, available on loan to all members of the Association, should be addressed to the Bureau of Library and Indexing Service. There is no charge for borrowing books, but there is a mini mal charge of one dollar ($1.00) for each package library. Illinois residents add 4 per cent Retailers Use Tax to the pur chase price of books. Practically all the dental journals published in the world at present are available to members on loan. Lists of books, package libraries and jour nals are available on request.

Council adopts changes in American Dental Association specifications no. 15 for acrylic resin teeth and no. 17 for denture base temporary relining resin

COUNCIL ON DENTAL RESEARCH

The Council, upon recommendation of the Specifications Committee of the Den tal Materials Group, International Asso ciation for Dental Research, adopted the following changes in the testing proce dures for determining the Knoop hard ness of acrylic resin teeth and denture base temporary relining resin. 1. American Dental Association Specification No. 15. Section 4.3.5— The following was substituted for the first sentence: “The hardness shall be determined on the occlusal (incisal) portion of the teeth by the Knoop indentation method using a rate of descent of not less than 1 mm./min. nor more than 18 mm./min. and a 20-second con tact with a 100-Gm. load.”

2. American Dental Association Specification No. 17. Section 4.3.3— The sentence, “Knoop numbers shall be determined . . . contact.” , was de leted and the following substituted: “Knoop numbers shall be deter mined 21 to 27 hours after mixing using a 100-Gm. load, a rate of descent of not less than 1 mm./min. nor more than 18 mm./min. and a 20-second contact.” These changes are effective immedi ately and were adopted since a time of descent of load, as currently specified in the test procedure, is not sufficiently spe cific to obtain consistent microhardness values.
