A report by NASA's Langley Research Center, which reviews existing knowledge of the surface properties of carbon fibres and fibrelmatrix adhesion in carbon fibre reinforced plastics. The review concludes that there is a serious lack of information on carbon fibre adhesion to thermoplastics and on the nature of the carbon fibre surface itself and the interface with all classes It is further concluded that the adhesion between of polymer. the fibre and matrix is so low that it is doubtful whether the full mechanical properties and environmental stability of these Report reference No. 2344-PR(M). composites are being realised.
