A D V A N C E D MATERIALS RESEARCH A N D D E V E L O P M E N T FOR T R A N S P O R T The third Conference of the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS) will be held on November 26-29 1985 at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France under the auspices of the Council of Europe and the Commission of the European Communities. Sponsors include the Soci6tO Frangaise de M6tallurgie, the Association Europ6enne des Mat6riaux Composites, the Metals Society, the Danish Metallurgical Society, the Deutsche Gesellschaft ffir Metallkunde, the Deutsche Keramische Gesellschaft, the British Ceramics Society, the Association Beige pour favoriser l'6tude des verres et des matOriaux cOramiques. The conference will have as its theme: advanced materials R&D for applications in the aerospace, automotive, land transportation and shipbuilding industries. The conference will be focused on the following topics: light metals; composites; and ceramic coatings for heat engines. A balanced programme of invited papers, contributed papers, and poster sessions will be presented. Introductory lectures on criteria for selection of materials for transport applications and a panel session on national programmes are planned, including a lecture on proposed new EEC programmes on Advanced Materials for Transport. Authors who wish to submit papers should send one typed original and one copy of the abstract together with the author's address to the Conference Secretariat (at the address given below) by March 15, 1985.
