P er. suppos.: trifiupromazine base 70 mg. (equiv. to 77.3 mg. trifiupromazine HCl) ; for children, triflupromazine base 35 mg. (equiv. to 38.6 mg. triflupromazine HCl). Possesses tranquilizing and antiemetic action , and potentiates action of sedative, narcotic and anesthetic drugs. For prevention and treatment of postoperative emesis, control of nausea and vomiting associated with viral gastroenteritis and other acute infections and management of nausea and vomiting of early pregnancy. No untoward effects have been reported to date, but if allergic manifestations such as skin rash or photosensitivity should occur, the drug should be discontinued; antihistamines may also be of value. In some children with severe behavioral problems whoreceive prolonged therapy, a reversible parkinsonian syndrome may develop which can be controlled readily by the use of anti-parkinsonian drugs and / or by reducing or discontinuing Vesprin therapy temporarily. Large doses of hypnotics should not be used in conjunction with Vesprin suppositories. Phenothiazine-jaundice associated with triflupromazine has been exceptionally rare. During continued therapy, routine blood counts are advisable since agranulocytosis and leukopenia have been observed with phenothiazine derivatives. The pediatric patient should b e examined routinely for soreness of the mouth, gums, or throat, or any symptoms of upper respiratory infection.
