One-Step Transfer Needle The Double-Ended Vented Transfer Device simultaneously transfers, filters, and vents in one step when transferring medication from a rubber-stopped unit dose vial to a vacuum LV. container. The device decreases the possibility of outside air entering the vial, eliminates the need for a separate syringe, and reduces the risk of touch contamination. The system incorporates a built-in nylon mesh filter between a venting pin and a 17 gauge x I" filter needle.-Burron Medical Inc., Dept. GN, 824 Twelfth Ave., Bethlehem, Pa. 18018.

Heel and Elbow Protectors The Reston 2 heel and elbow pads are designed specifical1y to prevent skin breakdown. The lattice design of the self-adherent protectors gives them the flexibility to fit around bony prominences and permits ventilation and observation of the skin surface. The protecters can remain in place during bathing and be blotted dry. They can be cut to size. The hypoal1ergenic adhesive on the pads reduces irritation.-3M, Medical Products Division, Dept. GN, Box 33600, St. Paul, Minn. 55133.

Electronic Sensor For the Blind The Sonicguide uses reflected high frequency sound waves to convey spatial information to the visually impaired. A transmitter in the center of the spectacle frame radiates ultrasound (inaudible to the ear) in front of the wearer. When the sound hits a wall or other object it is reflected to two sensors in the Sonicguide that transform the signals into audible tones sounded through two earphones connected to the arms of the spectacles. A small shoulder-slung pack contains the electronics and rechargeable battery. The device provides information about the distance and surface characteristics of objects above ground level at a distance of up to 16 feet. It should always be used with a long cane or a seeing-eye dog. Training with a qualified instructor is necessary for proper use. For those still employable, CETA rehabilitation funds are available to partially reimburse the cost of the unit, $2,395.-Sensory Aids Corp., Dept. GN, Suite 110, White Pines Office Center. 205 West Grand Ave .• Bensenville, Ill. 60106.
