Aims and Scope The purpose of OPTICAL MATERIALS is to provide a means of communication and technology transfer between researchers who are interested in materials with potential device applications. The journal publishes original papers and review articles on the design, synthesis, characterisation and applications of optical materials. OPTICAL MATERIALS focuses on: Optical Properties of Material Systems e.g. semiconductors; inorganic crystals and glasses; polymeric materials; liquid crystals; dyes and other organic materials; bulk, thin film, fibre or quantum confined structures. —

The Materials Aspects of Optical Phenomena e.g. transmission; reflection; luminescence; nonlinear effects; amplification; harmonic generation; frequency mixing; optical bistability; phase conjugation; photorefraction; squeezing; coherent spectroscopy;stimulated emission; excited stateand multiphoton absorption. —

The Materials Aspects of Devices and Applications e.g. optical waveguides, fibres, lens systems, filters and gratings; integrated optics; optical memories, -logic and switching devices; liquid crystals; solid state lasers, and beam modulators. —
