The microfiltration and separations businesses produce membrane-based microfiltration and separation products and systems for use in process scale filtration and separation applications. Their key customer segments include the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, healthcare, microelectronics, industrial coatings and petrochemical markets. According to Victor L Richey, Esco Technologies’ chairman and chief executive officer (CEO), "After a comprehensive review of the actions required to best position the company to meet its long-term objectives, we have decided to sell our microfiltration and separations businesses. Netzsch retains independence The previously announced deal between Netzsch Group (Selb, Germany) and Colfax Corp (Richmond, VA, USA) (Filtration+Separation, May 2003, p.4) to join forces has fallen through. This means that Netzsch and it four business divisions: Filtration, Grinding & Dispersing, Pumps and Analyzing and Testing, will remain independent. In April 2003, both companies announced the intention of Colfax to acquire the Netzsch Group. Despite the Federal Cartel Office having recently approved the merger, Colfax has called-off the deal citing that it was unable to meet the parameters of the acquisition finance facility. This is according to a statement from Netzsch. Thomas Netzsch, the managing shareholder of Netzsch commented: “We find it unfortunate, since we saw attractive synergies in a merger of Netzsch and Colfax. However, the Netzsch Group will continue to independently pursue its successful path.” He went to say that the amount of orders on hand at the beginning of the actual business year starting 1 July was 10% higher than in the previous year, and that the company will achieve its strategic goals in all of its main business areas.
