According to ColorMatrix, the t'relux System offers a highly aci~trate method for preform and boule mantffacmrers to be slate that the depth of cotour in the parts they manufacture meets the tight tolerance bands required by the end-user. Prelux is process independent and can be used with a solid

Mineral fibre reinforcement is free flowing Lapinus Fibres BV has developed the Rockforce engineered mineral fibre range for use in thermoplastics, specifically polypropylene and polyamide. The company has now released a new fibre reinforcement for thermoplastics. Based on a new production process, the fibre is a free flowing product that flows consistently and reproducibly. The pellets exhibit good flow behaviour in auto-
matic feeding and metering equipment. The company says that the advantages of Rockforce include a good price/performance balance and consistent and easy dosing. It offers improved output during compounding and provides a better surface quality. There is less tendency to warpage. New sizes are also under development to improve compatibility and reinforcement prop-
erties for high performance polymers, such as PBT and PET. Lapinus Fibres has also developed a range of Rockforce products for thermosets. The company says that Rockforce gives good properties in reinforced reaction injection moulded polyurethane applications, such as bumpers, spoilers and side claddings. The reinforcement is said to several advantages over rein-
forcement materials. These include good mechanical properties and an improved surface quality of the mouldings. It is easy to process and offers lower machine wear. The company adds that there are fewer problems with blocking ofventiles leading to less maintenance. Contact: Lapinus Fibres BV TeL"+31 475 353593 Email:

Akcros introduces new organic co-stabilizer Akcros Chemicals has developed a new class of organic costabilizers for customers wishing to move away from the use of heavy metal stabilizers in flexible and UPVC applications. The company says that P24D offers greater performance advantages than current alternatives in a number of areas, including PVC flooring and UPVC window profiles. According to Akcros, there are increasing demands for liquid
mixed metal soap stabilizers with increased stability, low phenol content, low odour and low volatility. These are being achieved through developments in technology, techniques to give increased metal concentrations, advances in organophosphite chemistry and the use of organic co-stabilizers. Hydrotalcite technology and the use of zeolite products have provided alternatives for leadbased stabilizers for PVC and
profile applications. While these materials absorb hydrogen chloride efficiently, the organic co-stabilizer provides the required control as performance demands on heavy metal free stabilizers increase. Current organic co-stabilizers used in plasticized PVC include dibenzoylmethane (DBM) and dehydroacetic acid (DHA). P24D (pyrrolidene-2, 4-diones) has a more efficient mechanism

of stabilization than DBM or DHA, claims Akcros Chemicals. It gives significantly less colour generation at lower addition levels, in both barium/zinc and calcium/zinc liquid stabilizer systems and contributes to improved colour performance of calcium/zinc solid stabilizers for flexible and rigid PVC.
