PPG starts-up distribution centre in Mexico PPG has opened a distribution centre in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, to serve its PPG-Comex business. The company recently marked completion of the project, which helps to maintain more than 200 jobs in the region. With nearly 34,200 sq ft (3176 sq m) of space, the new centre accommodates storage of about 3.5 M L (about 924,600 gal) of paint and coatings to help improve the distribution and commercialization of COMEX brand and other PPG products in the Pacific region of Mexico.

BASF grows R&D in Asia Pacific BASF has built a new coatings and coating resins laboratories at the BASF Innovation Campus Asia Pacific in Shanghai, China to address regional automotive client's demands for coatings solutions. PPG highlights trailer and intermodal coatings in new brochure PPG has published a new four-page brochure featuring its full line of trailer and intermodal transportation coatings, including industry-leading brands such as SPECTRACRON and AQUACRON liquid coatings, POWERCRON electrocoat (e-coat), ENVIROCRON powder coatings and a variety of corrosion-fighting pre-treatment and engineered products. PPG trailer and intermodal coatings are commonly used for landing gear, trailer and chassis frames, suspension components and air tanks, as well as for colourful finish applications on branded truck cabs, delivery vehicles and containers. They are available in a variety of resin formulations to meet customer demands for weather resistance, corrosion performance, ease of application and environmental sustainability. C OAT I N G S Arkema opens innovation centre in Korean university To support its growth in Asia, Arkema is strengthening its research network by opening an Innovation Center in Korea. Based within the highly reputable HanYang University in Seoul, this new laboratory embodies a partnership spanning many years between Arkema and the University. The laboratory will specialize in high performance polymers and renewable energies – two areas of excellence for the Hanyang University. Through daily interaction with the University's laboratories, it will serve as a major anchor for the Group's future innovations in this region. Integration within a university campus reflects the spirit of joint research between industry and the academic community, successfully initiated by Arkema in France. It brings outstanding capacity for innovation, while ensuring scientific excellence in the laboratory's work. The centre will also enable Arkema's teams in the region to provide local support, in particular to Korean customers in the adhesives and technical polymers markets, for electronics, composite materials and renewable energies applications. This Application Laboratory complements the Group's existing R&D facilities in Asia, where Arkema already operates research centres in China and Japan.

Lubrizol appoints new GM for its Performance coatings business The Lubrizol Corporation has announced that Sanjay Kalhan has been promoted to general manager of Lubrizol's Performance Coatings business. In this role, he is responsible for managing all commercial and technical activities of the coatings business globally, as well as developing growth strategies and business development initiatives. Sanjay joined Lubrizol in 1995 and has held a variety of technical and commercial management roles with the company. Sanjay will be based at Lubrizol's offices in Brecksville, Ohio, USA.
