Swedish company develops technique for spherical powders SCANDINAVIAN P o w d e r t e c h h a s developed a t e c h n i q u e to a g g l o m e r a t e spherical, h i g h purity powders to give compressable a n d sinterable products. The c o m p a n y , b a s e d in Torsh~lla, Sweden, says comp o n e n t s p r o d u c e d from t h e process have very good mechanical a n d corrosion properties. The firm believes t h e process will have several applications where there are problems with conventional w a t e r atomized powders. C h a i r m a n of t h e new company is Dr Christer Aslund, previously in charge of powder d e v e l o p m e n t for the Vallourec Group a n d t h e inventor of t h e A n v a l p r o c e s s for m a k i n g stainless steel tubes. Aslund says t h e a d v a n t a g e of Scandinavian Powdertech's process is t h a t highly alloyed steels, like ordinary stainless steels, nickel alloys, stellites a n d tool steels, can be produced into p r e s s e d a n d sint e r e d products. This firm, which i n t e n d s to operate m a i n l y in t h e S c a n d i n a v i a n countries, uses t h e latest thermal spraying techniques, such as t h e HVOF process, to apply corrosion a n d erosion coatings on a variety of substrates. Nordic Coating expects to find applications for its wear r e s i s t a n t services in t h e metallurgy, t r a n s p o r t , c o n c r e t e a n d automotive industries. It expects i n t e r e s t in corrosion r e s i s t a n t c o a t i n g s from t h e chemical industry, particularly the pulp and paper sector, a n d off-shore engineering a n d p h a r m a c e u t i c a l industries.
