Every food service educator, researcher and professional
should secure a copy for their own library. The outstanding feature of the book is its extensive bibliogaphy after each subject matter essay. (Thomas P. Phillips, R.D. University of Wisconsin-Stout)

ANALYSIS OF LEOPOLD’S QUANTITATIVE COMPARISONS OF LANDSCAPE ESTHETICS. Louis Hamill,Journal of Leisure Research (1601 North Kent Street, Arlington, Virginia 22209, USA), Volume 7, Number 1, 1975, pp. 16-28. Luna B. Leopold, in 1969, published a system for the ‘quantitative comparison of landscape esthetics’. This analysis of the system was motivated by problems of comprehension and interpretation of the results experienced by students. An examination of Leopold’s checklist of landscape factors reveals that the system for rating each factor is inconsistent. Analysis of the system suggested that consistent rating of environmental factors, and the addition of factor scalings, might have produced comparable results more effectively. AN ANALYSIS OF THERAPEUTIC RECREATION AS A SERVICE. John H. Lewko. Journal of Leisure Research (1601 North Kent Street, Arlington, Virginia 22209, USA), Volume 8, Number 1, 1976, pp. 35-48. This analysis sought to determine the extent to which therapeutic recreation service (represented by formal items of communication)
is indeed a service as compared
to a theoretical model of delivery of service. The results of a survey are discussed within the general context of knowledge development formulated by Kuhn and the adoption of the delivery of service model to assist in the transition from a nonparadigm to a multiple-paradigm stage of development.
