pumped storage yield applied to the two-season case, with inputs to storage distributed both in Gaussian and gamma fashion. The resulting curves depicting the probability of an empty reservoir, in terms of its capacity and the probability distribution of seasonal inflows, entails several thousand computer calculated solutions. Preliminary information on this work has been presented as a Paper to the International Association of Scientific Hydrology at the Symposium held in Garda in October, 1966, by Jennifer Jones and J. A. Cole, and a second Paper by J. A. Cole reviewed the Association's earlier work on reservoir yield calculations. As a contribution to the investigation of statistical techniques for generating synthetic sequences of river flows, a computer programme was written early in the year which can generate monthly flows in a 1,000-year sequence and which will concurrently interpolate daily flows to match the monthly values so derived. A study is to be made on aspects of the conjunctive use of surface and groundwaters. A Centre for research in the use of electrical analogues, for the solution of groundwater problems, was developed during the year, and it has a substantial project in hand sponsored by the Lincolnshire River Authority on groundwater flow and pumped abstraction in the Wolds.
