Pp. 383, ISBN 829037607 3. Price: Not given. These 140 papers were given at a conference held in Norway in March 1980. They give an excellent picture of the 'state of play' in this field. Unfortunately, many have had to be summarised to fit into the volume, but readers will know where to obtain fuller details. This is one of the most useful publications dealing with this difficult subject.

A comprehensive picture reviewing current knowledge of the importance and dangers of nickel in the environment is given by the 29 papers by recognised authorities. Papers deal with the sources of the metal, its distribution, its flow through different ecosystems and its biological effects on man and other organisms.
