An Introduction to the Association

The aim of the Association o f Veterinary Anaesthetists o f Great B r i t a i n and Ireland i s to promote the study of and research i n t o the subject of anaesthesia i n animals and t o disseminate the r e s u l t s thereof t o the public.

To f u r t h e r

t h i s aim we hold regular meetings and conferences and publish our own journal, the Journal of the Association o f Veterinary Anaesthetists.

We are also keen t o

promote collaboration between anaesthetists i n a l l places and a c t i v e l y encourage the establishment and taking of diplomas and degrees i n veterinary anaesthesia.

The Association t y p i c a l l y holds a 2-day meeting twice a year; one i n the Spring, the other i n the Autumn. a wide range of tastes.

The programnes are varied, o f f e r i n g papers f o r

The venues are rotated r e g u l a r l y throughout Great

B r i t a i n although occasional v i s i t s abroad are popular.

The membership includes p r a c t i s i n g veterinary surgeons, University teachers, medics and s c i e n t i s t s , a l l w i t h a common i n t e r e s t i n veterinary anaesthesia and related topics.

Although based i n Great B r i t a i n , there i s a large membership i n

Europe and the North American Continent.

The Journal of the Association o f Veterinary Anaesthetists (formerly the

Proceedings) i s a f u l l y scrutinised journal, c u r r e n t l y publfshed annually.

The

contents include reviews and a r t i c l e s based on presentations a t meetings together w i t h o r i g i n a l papers on the topic of anaesthesia submitted f o r p u b l i c a t i o n i n the usual way.

The journal i s supplied

free to

a l l members.

The Association i s keen t o welcome new members a t a l l times.
