in the floor of the mouth (Fig. 1). The lump was related to the lingual flange of her complete lower denture. The patient was referred to the Department of Dental Surgery, where clinical and radiographic examination revealed the presenceof a large calculus of the left submandibular salivary gland which had ulcerated into the oral cavity (Fig. 2). In view of her age and serious cardiac condition, the calculus was removed via an oral approach, with the patient under local anesthesia.
