OF CHICAGO
The Chicago AORN chapter has continued its informal discussion groups, lead by program speakers who have provided a great

deal of practical information for OR nurses. One hundred or more nurses attended the March membership meeting and heard guest speaker Dr. Oscar Sugar discuss “Traumatic Head Injuries.” Dr. Sugar stressed that the OR nurse may be in a position to instruct other E.R., I.C.U., or Recovery Room personnel about caring for patients with head injuries. He stressed the importance of positioning the patient on the side or abdomen with head turned to the side so that secretions can easily flow from the mouth. In addition, he told the nurses, a Prep Room could be used to eliminate procedures of head shaving and washing in the O.R. At the April meeting a Johnson and Johnson Company representative discussed “Draping Techniques and the Future of Disposable Linen in the O.R.” Nurses learned about the production, development and pricing of drapes. A demonstration on a manikin was helpful. We might mention that President Wanda Klos of AORN of Chicago attended by invitation the American Society of Anesthesiologists Symposium on Clinical Care held this spring at the Palmer House. She commented on Dr. Lauerence Ruttle’s presentation titled “Better Clinical Care Through Better Utilization of Anesthesiologists.” Continued on page 25

Continued from page 23 Our congratulations to Regina Gramza for taking over the Vice Presidency of the Chicago AORN chapter for the remainder of the year. She succeeds Mrs. Louise Wright. who was recently appointed Director of Continuing Education. It is a known fact that good OR nurses advance into administrative positions in other areas of the hospital-best wishes to Michael Earnheart and Louise Wright in their new positions.

OF CENTRAL NEBRASKA
Re-elected President for her second straight term is Edith Chapman of AORN of Central Nebraska, Grand Island, Nebr. Mrs. Chapman was doubly honored by being appointed chairman of the Veterans Administration Hospital Committee in planning for the Grand Island VA booth at the Nebraska Health Fair, held in April. Mrs. Chapman’s key to success seems to be a vital interest and a sincere loyalty towards the group and an eye to new ideas for improvement and expansion. We salute her leadership, and her six right hand committee chairmen: Lois Schreiber, By-Laws Committee and Board member, Marlene Mersh, Membership Committee and herself a new member ; Gail Haile, Program Committee; Edith Kroeker, Public Relations Committee; Lila Stout, Special Projects Committee and also a Board member; and Ruth Meyers of the Nominating Committee. Other Board members for the chapter are

LEGAL PROBLEMS INTEREST NURSES Sessions on legal problems are a catchy theme that AORN nurses are interested in. After hearing about Western Michigan’s successful speaker on legal aspects a few months ago, Program Chairman N. Davis at the Portland, Ore., AORN Columbia River Region scheduled a noted attorney to speak at a meeting on the legal aspects of nursing. President Toodie Noxon of AORN Superior, Calif., reported that a “Legal Problems” session received popular support for a future membership meeting.
