irWatch by VMware is working with Google to enhance the security of Android devices in the enterprise. In the biggest release since its acquisition by VMware, AirWatch 8 aims to add a biometric layer to end user interaction with enterprise mobility enabling alternative biometric and multi-factor authentication, including Apple Touch ID integration in the AirWatch SDK and integration with EyeVerify for eye scan password replacement.
Finger Sensor having Orientation based Authentication and Related Methods’ says: “An electronic device may include a housing, and a finger sensor carried by the housing to sense a user’s finger placement at different rotational angles. The electronic device may also include an orientation sensor carried by the housing to sense an orientation thereof, and a processor coupled to the finger sensor and the orientation sensor. “The processor may acquire finger-matching biometric data of the user’s finger at an unknown rotational angle relative to a known rotational angle of finger-enrollment data, generate an estimated rotational angle of the acquired finger-matching biometric data and based upon a sensed orientation of the housing, and attempt an authentication of the user based upon the estimated acquired rotational angle.” The patent notes that Apple’s Touch ID centric technology may apply to the iMac and MacBooks in future. Apple is also reported to have filed a patent for technology to move its fingerprint sensors from the home button of its products to underneath the touchscreen. UÊ -ÕÌ

nvestec, South African private bank and wealth and investment management firm, has deployed Nuance’s voice biometrics to improve the experience for South African private banking clients. Investec, in partnership with OneVault, a South African-based, specialist voice biometric company, deployed Nuance’s voice biometrics solution to verify the identity of the client through a natural conversation with a bank representative. While engaging in conversation, the FreeSpeech technology analyses the client’s voice to compare it with their voiceprint on file. The system tells the Investec representative when the client’s identity has been confirmed so the client’s query or request can be resolved. Continued on page 12...
