5501767 METHOD FOR GETTERING NOBLE METALS FROM MINERAL ACID SOLUTION Sorensen Tro; Grieger Eric Boise, ID, UNITED STATES assigned to Micron Technology Inc Silicon is employed as. a reducing agent in an acid bath to adsorb noble metals present as contaminants in the acid. In the manufacture of silicon devices for electronic memory and other devices, polonium-210 is adsorbed by silicon getters to reduce soft error rate attributable to alpha particle emissions from the radioactive polonium. The noble metals in addition to polonium which can be plated onto silicon using the disclosed method are gold, silver, platinum, copper, palladium, mercury, selenium and bismuth.

A method for manufacturing alkali chromates by the reacting of chromium ore with alkali compounds and oxidation in an atmosphere containing at least 50% oxygen is described, in which the mixture consisting of chromium ore, alkali compound and optionally leaning materials is heated in a first stage in an atmosphere containing not more than 5 vol. % oxygen to a temperature between 1000 degrees and 1 400 degrees C, and in a second stage is oxidized at a lower temperature of 900 degrees to 1 070 degrees C with supply of an atmosphere containing at least 50% oxygen.

Laskowski Janusz S; Wang Ou Richmond, CANADA assigned to The University of British Columbia A composition, adapted to be used in the flotation of ore fractions in aqueous suspension, consists essentially of: (a) water; (b) a hydrocarbon extender oil, preferably one having a low aromatics content; (c) a long chain aliphatic amine, such as a tallow-based amine, preferably one with an iodine value is less than about 20 cg/g; and (d) an acid emulsifier. This composition is prepared by the following successive steps: (a) dissolution of the amine in the oil at an elevated temperature, (b) addition of the acid to the aqueous phase, (c) addition of the oil containing the amine to the aqueous phase, and (d) emulsification of the mixture using an appropriate shearing.
